Sorry to hear about the problems.  Why does the frig always break when it's full instead of empty?

Sounds like a surge protector is in your future.

Well, the fridge actually survived...but the breaker was tripped so we lost all the food.

We have surge protectors on lots of stuff. They didn't survive.  Is that ironic? Smiley

Daniel

Ir may be time to invest in one of those whole house lightning surge protectors

Glad nobody was hurt

Well I would not be upset if the squirrels in the  trees got zapped

What was the dead squirrel tally?

Just sayin Wink

Sitting over at my brothers old house he had in Il with his first wife. We were in the house when lighting hit the oak tree in his front yard that was only approx 25 feet from the front door. The tree survived but it had a spiral scar on it from the lighting strike. Lighting not only dangerous it can also be fickle. RIDE SAFE.

Pecans and Oaks, must be strong and resilient. Pines can't stand lightening, a hit and that's it.

Same thing happened to us this spring.  Total was north of $2000 in damage.  I feel your pain.

A red-type (maybe a blackjack) oak got hit at our place 15 or more years ago. A strip of
bark an inch wide peeled off of it from the top to the bottom. One end of a hammock
was attached to it, welded the chain links together... killed the oak.

I've seen other kinds of oaks around here withstand massive lightning hits...

Idaknow...

Adding whole-house surge protector next weekend. I feel it would have stopped this one.
