I called my family physicians office early today for an appointment. Now, normally when I call at 8am (when the office opens)I must wait for up to 10 minuted before I get a live person. The office's policy has been to always schedule only for the same day. Early callers get in before the schedule is full.........Not this time.
I finally reached the scheduler, she said that the appointments were full. I asked why they were full at 8:05 am . New computer system, she said. So she said that she would transfer me to the phone nurse. Another wait.
The phone nurse answered. I told her what i thought. She asked me what I wanted to see the doc about. I said that I had a bleeding sore on the back of my ear, that I couldn't see it to check, and had a history of cancer on my ear. She said that she didn't think the doctor "does ears". ( He's a GP for Gods sake!). She said 'wait' . she was gone a long time, evidently talked to the doctor and I ended up 'qualifying' for a visit. I know the doctor well and he's very good.
Anyway, i did get in later today but I have a feeling that this @#$%^&*## Obamacare is going to definitely cause rationed care and I'm concerned ,at 84 years of age, that I'm going to drop through the cracks. Supposedly, after all, I'm past my useful life, my warrantee has run out, and there are younger ones out there that are productive. BULLSHIT!!!
Up until now, the medical service at my doctor's office has been great, although hard to get in for an appointment. I might be seeing a change.
For all those out there that think that Obamacare will be great, the HELL with their 'book learnin', I'm seeing the practical. Don't get old and Don't get sick. This, IMO, is a harbinger of things to come.
I'm very unreasonable at the moment so I won't listen to a 'reasonable' argument!

You're not wrong, Wayne, they are going to take money away from medicare to fund the "coverage for all" part of Obamacare, and have delayed the implementation of that part until after the election, so as to not lose the senior vote. I'm as worthless in this Marxist system as you are.

Same here Wayne. In my case yer preaching to the choir. At this point in time my V A doc and the facility i go to seems to be taking care of me. I have heard the gripes and bitching of lack of care from the current vets and their spouses. Wayne-i see this getting MUCH worse if the talking turd currently in residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave stays in residence after November. RIDE SAFE.

Serk, you've just said the magic word AARP! They are arseholes! They wanted Obamacare since they are in the insurance business.
In fact, the company that I retired from dropped my group medical insurance as of July 1st with very little warning. I was forced into, by necessity and economics, an AARP Medicare Complete plan,(I didn't join AARP tho), that's the official name for it. This plan is presently being shored up by 8 billion dollars requisitioned by the Obama administration. The legality of THAT has been questioned by the Fed's watchdog. The 8 billion will timeout in January of 2013.
Shrewd Chicago politics to say the least. I will not comment any further, the VRCC board has rules on profanity.

Very true Jabba but Obama requisitioned the 8 billion without the approval of Congress. There was a loophole and he sure can manipulate loopholes and by pass the Constitution.
However, you're right! It would be nice to clean house in the election on both sides of the aisle. However, with the two party system, that ain't goona happen.
BTW, I WAS a Republican.

Been seeing this coming for years. When I lost my job, I became self insured and have been now for three years. Knock on wood that I don't have a major problem, but so far I have paid for my medical visits, which have been few. If you want a good insight, talk to a Canadian who has moved here and has worked in the medical field there, and here. They will enlighten you real fast. All I know is that the system is broke, Obamacare can't fix it, and Rommy can't fix it. We have become a people who think we should live into our 90's and be able to run marathons all the while. I love life, but I know it is fleeting and we all are going to die. Until we hang all the congress and senate, for TREASON, we are doomed. They have sold our freedom out to satisfy their greed.

Jimmyc, I agree with you except one part.......................... No, we don't expect to run marathons. All we ask is that we use God's gift of reasonable health to keep fairly active, help others, use our accumulated knowledge for others (when asked ), and live to enjoy our fruits of labors to the best of our ability without undue burden on others. That's all. Non of us seniors want to be a burden, neither are we wanting a free handout from the government, just a fair shake. wayne, solo1

Medicare cut by 500 Billion, is your answer.
This will allow all over 50,,about 16 million peps, to get Medicaid. They are still useful.
Guess who wants to live to be 100, the guy or gal that is 99.
Nazi Germany and Cananda here we come.
Just take a painkiller and go home will be the treatment. Obama has said this ina early speach, you tube it.
Of course if you are here Illegally, or in prison on death row or otherwise you will get all the freee health care you can stand.
Get sick commit a crime and you will be taken care of and they will be so over crowded you will be out in 6 months.

I just got back from the doctor's office. The Medical Group is in the process of going to computer records, the reason for the screwup. My ear is ok, no sign of cancer.......(he doctor does look at ears. The doctor and I talked. I gave him a copy of my posting here. He mentioned that a number of doctors that he knows, are retiring, they see the handwriting on the wall. 20 million more patients, less doctors, and even less pay for them. He said it's going to get a lot worse if Abominable Care stays. We have GOT TO VOTE OBAMA OUT, his Democrat friends, and some of the Republicans too. Indiana started by getting rid of Lugar in the primaries. He was a friend of Obama. We're down to holding our nose (again). On a nicer note, my son, Chris took me out for lunch at the Trion Tap in New Haven. Very good food and the only bar in New Haven to go non smoking on July 1st. WAY TO GO.!!!!! Both the VFW and the Legion voted to keep smoking. The Legion has lost a member, me.

Solo1, I understand and agree with your sentiment. My comment comes from over 40 years in healthcare and watching adults send their parents, who are dying, into exam rooms for procedures that are not going to increase their quality or quantity of life. They just want momma or daddy to live forever. It's not reasonable. Now before you say I haven't been there, I want you to know I have with my father. I knew he was dying and when he said no more, I told the doctor, no more. I got trumped by his wife,(not my mom, she died when I was eight). He lived another week or two after having the procedure he did not want to have. I resent what she did because old people who are dying know it and most come to peace with it. I just don't see replacing a hip on a 90 year old bed ridden person because the kids want it done. I love old folks, I'm becoming one. They are so full of knowledge and wisdom, and many are a hoot to be around. Heck, I even have known some who denied a God, then come around and start investigating the truth and realize there really is a God based upon life and other things only an old person could understand. I believe we all need to prepare for another home, lay up our treasures there, and then we won't want or need to keep living here for a hundred years. I still don't agree with the Muslim in office trying to become King, and I don't really agree with keeping the system just like it is, it's to corrupt, not fair, not reasonable, not cost effective and is not being run by anyone in government correctly. We have the best medical outcomes, but we pay for it. Just my point of view.

Thank you for your very heartwarming and honest reply. I understand perfectly. I, too, have been there a number of times.
I had two doctors lie to me concerning my wife. Both said that she was doing better in intensive care.
I saw her chart. They both had written; prognosis hopeless. They persuaded her to have a number of things done. When I pointed out to them about her living will, they told me that she was able to make decisions and she wanted further things done. Finally, they walked out and lost interest and left me to tell her, my WIFE, that she wasn't going to live. At that point, the minister and I were there for her. The nurses and I entered her into hospice care shortly after that and she died eight days later, with a semblance of peace. A doctor, with a heart, told me later that Phyllis would've died much earlier if I hadn't been her caregiver for two years..
Yes, I've been there.

This is where we are headed. Roberts on the Supreme Court chose wisely as he hung this albatross of health care debacle square on Barracks Shoulders. He wanted it gone and reelected. This would have done the job for him. Now it's our turn according to Roberts. Lets get er done.

Dam, I've never been able to see a doctor the same day I call. Its usually 2 weeks or more. Been this way to me for 15+ yrs. Its normal to me! I dont know much about obamacare. I do know medicade/ medicare has been hurting us (EMS systems) ever since I started in 97. Last year our EMS made $4 million but wrote off $3.5 million due to the cade/care reimbursment.

Solo1, So sorry to hear of your loss in such a cold hearted situation. Yes, there are many Drs. who would do anything to increase their income, even when they know there is no hope. All I can say is, you did the honourable thing and stayed by your wife's side the whole time. For that, you are a good man. So sad to even talk about these things. I get so angry when I think about all this mess and the corruption and greed causing it all. I don't often comment on threads like this, but healthcare has been my life and I have always been disgusted with the lack of honesty and money grungy people in the system trying to control something they don't have a right to be a part of. One day it will all be clear.

To answer your Subject line, yes, it is. It's one of the reasons Obamacare was designed the way it was. Control. Of everything you do. Just like that now only the Feds can now do student loans. Who do you think will decide who goes to what school and what they'll 'have available' to study. It goes on, and on, and on etc. etc. etc.

I'm disabled (Nuero-Musuclar issues) and on SSD, and I see quite a few specialists/doctors every 2-3 months, and I'm also covered under my wifes insurance. I have refused Medicare though.
Virtually all my doctors have said something to the fact that Obamacare is going to increase their patient load. So more patients mean more profit. People tend to wait and/or put off seeing an MD due to either lack of insurance coverage or excessive co-pays and fear of losing coverage. Government mandated coverage will create a healthier society.
Now the MDs will see far more patients (maybe make a bit less per patient, but they will make it up on volume).
Currently Geriatrics is the fastest growing field of medicine.

The only statement that I agree with you on, Momz, is the increased geriatric load. The Greying of America is a known fact and it started happening before Obamacare was passed.
Rationing of care will result and the seniors who worked all their life will suffer for it. A fact!
Obamacare is going to be a disaster.

Dont really see how O/C is going to increase pt load. Whether you have insurance or not, most still go to the doctor/ER. I do notice that those with insurance are more likly going to the doctor/ER then those without cause of them not being able to pay. All ER's except pt whether you have ins or not. Doctors dont know if they have ins or not and still treat the same. Same with us. We dont know the ins status untill after the run. There are a few pts that are our regs that we know. Same for anyone over 65, we need to make sure they meet medicare guildlines for ambulance transport in order for us to take them so they will not recieve a bill. Since 97 we had a increase in pts every year and will continue to do so.
Dont know what rationing of care is. Anyone? Doctors/medics standard of care should have no effect.

Momz,
The doctors will have an increased patient load and the payments they rerceive from the Feds keeps getting reduced. You can hardly find a doctor today that will even accept a Medicaid patient becaause the Feds only pay about $0.55 on the dollar. Those payments are all scheduled to go down, way down. Think of this as well. Everyone in the US has access to medical care. Everyone, regardless of who you are, legal or not. Less than haf the people actually pay for it though. Obamacare mandates everyone have healthcare insurance that they designed purchased from who they say to buy it from. But there's no way to collect from those who already don't pay. Those people will get government waivers paid for by guess who, the half that already pay for themselves. It's impossible to borrow, tax, spend and regulate your household, your city/county/state or country into prosperity. Sadly the dopes in charge today in Washington have been trying this route for the past 3.5 years with reckless abandon.
All the best,
Mark

Medicade pays us a flat rate of $55 per EMS run. Medicare pays us about $250 per run. All $ are approximate, I cant remember exact. The bill maybe $1500 but we only get $55/250.
