'75 Mercedes 300D  Not fast, but I bought it for $500.  Previous owners had sunk a lot of money into trying to fix it, but turns out it was the fuel tank had bottomed out and smashed the floater cylinder and the fuel gauge would only to to 1/4 tank and stay there until there was no more diesel.  Lucky for me I found the problem.  Put $200 paint job on it, swapped interiors with a '76 I bought for parts, and fixed the float ($250 for the '76) and drove the car for a few years before selling it for $1700.

Me in my first car. 1956 Chevy V8 convertible. $300 ... converted it to a standard with floor shift after blowing the automatic. Added tri power. Many fond memories.

My first illegitimate car was a 65 Olds Cutlass convertable. I had to park it around the corner so my Dad wouldnt know. I paid $50 for it and dragged it around for miles to get it running.
Dad found out and killed me then drove it to work for a week. Than made me sell it. Along with the 63 Plymouth Lancer and the 58 ford wagon. I think what may have upset him was he bought, then surprised me with a 64 Plymouth Belvedere.

My first car was a 1964 Barracuda. Fun car and was always different from what everyone else was driving. I had thoughts of a complete restoration back in the eighties but now it languishes in the barn.

about 1983 most all the body issues resolved,

Now it sits in the barn, and some a-#hole stole the trunk lid  tickedoff
