I would like to put a set of interstate or tourer hardbags and mounts on my standard Valkrie but I'm not sure if the mounts will bolt right up or they have to be modified. I found a nice set of interstate bags and mounts at a decent price but wondered if I would have trouble mounting them. I know some of you have done this or have the expertise too. Could you help me before I spend alot for something I may have to hack on to make fit?

Worked for me - '98 standard - trunk too when you change the fender rails. All bolt-on.

Thanks guys. I knew you could help. I'm going to be into these for around $850 with the mounts, but factory seems to be far superior than anything I have found aftermarket.  The interstate bags on the standard look really good, thanks for the pic.  Do i have to change the seat rails if im just putting on the saddlebags? Thanks again.

No, you do not.  You only need to change the fender struts if you're attempting to mount an Interstate trunk onto a standard/tourer.  Standard and Tourer fender struts are the same......Interstate is different.

The saddlebags (and bag mounts) from an Interstate OR Tourer will bolt right up to your standard no problem......they're a direct fit.

btw......welcome aboard.   cooldude

I've had Interstate bags on my Standard for 12 years, no problems install with the original bolts.  Check into Chet's quick drop bag kit, it makes taking them off and putting them back on a breeze.

I think Chet retired and is no longer offering items for sale.

I/S bags on a Tourer. Swapped & added the hardware to convert them to Tourer style lid opening. Besides the exhaust swap this was the best thing I have done to it!  cooldude

Didn't realize there was a difference on the tourer and the interstate on how the bags opened. I assumed the mounts were the same.  Next steps after the bags are cup holder and backrest like yours. Looks good.

Mounts are the same.  The difference from Interstate bag to Tourer bag is that the Interstate bags don't hinge.....they lift off away from the bike and hang on the bag.  They do that to clear that big massive trunk.  Plus, they have no seam running down the back of the bag.

Tourer bags hinge and open from rear to front.  They have a mold seam that runs down the back of the bag.  Note the seam in this pic.....

All mounting is the same.  Hardware is the same.  Bag mounts are the same.
