I taught an MSF class this weekend at Walter's State College so I took Monday off and treated myself to a ride.  I left early yesterday morning and rode to Tellico Plains for breakfast at a local mom and pop resturant I always stop at.  Then hit the Cherohala Skyway toward Robbinsville, NC.  I had the pleasure of following a group of Harley riders, mostly 2 up going at a liesurely pace having fun and taking lots of pics.  They pulled off on one of the many overlooks so I increased my pace and practiced taking curves maintaining throttle roll on thruout the curve and delaying hitting the apex until the last 25% of the curve. Took a shortcut to get to 129 just below Fontana dam.  At the biker resort on 129 I turned left on 28 and rode to Fontana Village nestled in the mountains on the Little Tennessee River.  A beautiful resort with many activities, used by many car and bike clubs through out the riding season.  I rode back to the resort on 129 and grabbed a coke.  I started down The Dragon and wound up behind a Cruiser riding two up.  The guy was well over his skill level going less than 25 MPH all the way down.  I hung back not wanting to stress him anymore as he painfully inched his way off the mountain.  I'm glad they made it down safely but I took a right on The Foothills Parkway and rode over to Townsend then on home.  223 miles later I was gassing up in Halls, TN and was surprised that the Fat Girl got 39.74 MPG.  I used a little over 5 1/2 gallons of gas and made the entire ride without stopping to refuel.  The 3 gallon belly tank I added this year really makes longer rides more pleasant.  Sorry no pics this time.  Maybe next time.

All of my best MPG's have been while following Harleys around.  Evil

I got 45 mpg ridng with my oldest brother in the FL Keys this past April.

Of course on the leg of the trip that I got 45 mpg his Sportster got 69 mpg.

I will consistently get 40 mpg riding the BRP as long as I stay close to the speed limit.

Crazyhorse, I can think of nothing better than to ride the Cherohala or any road, for that matter, with you!  Of course, anyone is welcome here in God's country to ride to their heart's content.  I hate missing Inzane this year but am trying to make up for it by riding here in the mountains.  I will have to take pictures next time to entice everyone to come ride the Highlands!
