RANT: I just hate it when they call a standard with bags (hard or soft) a Tourer. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/1197483705.html

ok, here's a question then, I may be guilty of this very thing. I just bought a Valk that I call a Tourer model. It started as standard, but her previous owner added everything that I'm aware of that makes a Tourer a Tourer. All Honda accessories, including Tourer bags off another bike, "Tourer" label and all. Am I allowed to call her a Tourer? (oh, and I took the reflectors off the rear fender). No harm intended if not... Dan

Dan You can call it a 'Tour', but it's still a 'Standard', as far as the insurance company is concerned. They go by VIN, and although my 'Standard' has hard bags, and a removable I/S trunk, and a Hoppe fairing, my insurance guy sez I have to pay the higher 'cruiser' rate, as opposed to the 'Touring' model. I still get a great rate, but was surprised that American Family treated the Standards different than Tours or an Interstate. Black Dog

RANT: I just hate it when they call a standard with bags (hard or soft) a Tourer. No offense intended, well very little at least, but I laugh my butt off every time someone wants to make a strong distinction between a Valkyrie Standard and a Tourer. They are mechanically identical. The difference is the addition of two items that should have been options on the same model and placement of reflectors. Oh, and stock paint schemes.
Honda really should have only marketed two models of the Valkyrie.

Exactly.....If Honda ever does offer the Valkyrie again, that's exactly the way it needs to be offered......a Standard with options you can add, and an Interstate with a couple options you can add to it.

The dealer had gotten an e-mail from someone ( thanks Britman ) the guy didn't know much about the Valkyries, only by looking at pics. he had changed the ad after Britmans email. I think that we as a group need to keep up on this issue. the Tourer and the Standard are the same bike, but hold a different value. Regards T.P.

OK what does that make my bike than. It started out as a standard but this winter I installed the Bags off of Willows totaled Interstate. Is it a standard or a tourer. Or is it not a tourer because the bags are off of an Interstate...HMMMMMMM. I'm confused. LOL. But its not a full tourer because it does not have the Windshield. In fact my brothers "Tourer" does not have a windshield either. (took it off when he got it). So what is his. A tourer without a windshield. Even though it looks just like my standard with bags....Things that make you go HMMMMMM........

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

If the vin says standard then its a standard. If it says CT then its a tourer. My HD bud has a FXST-Softail standard. Its chromes out now to look like a regular softail, but its still a standard. Alot of guys throw bags and a shield on all types of bikes but never changes what they are originally. You can throw rear speakers on a electra glide but it doesn't make it a electra glide classic. I have some HD acc on my bike but its still a Valk!

Seems piddly but it is whatever the title sez it is. Think of it this way, can you turn a GTO into a "Judge" or a std Camaro into a RS just by bolting stuff on? (no )
