I've seen them around, Wally world, Autozone..etc. Was thinking of doing the same thing. Let us know if you like the mod.

Im using a autozone one, comes with a couple of adaptors, one fits the valk mout/ screws right on, works as good as the oem one, and doesnt smack the garage door .

Took a pair of side-cutters to mine. Still picks up 'bout the same. Do wish there was something out there to improve reception though?

I have had 2 of the autozone ones. The short black metal one worked great, but worked itself loose, the black all rubber one did not pickup good here in the sticks. Found a guy with an oem one at a good price and it picks up the same as the short black metal one from autozone did.

i just went to auto zone. they have a small number of antennas to choose from. I bought the short black one that extends just a little. I am in the chicago area so reception judgement is to be determined. At this point, it works as well as OEM. I suspect it will hold up to OEM standards. It was 14 dollars.
