There is a long history of spoiled catered mama's boys not turning out to be very good men (and some very bad famous men).
Good child rearing can be done without corporal punishment, but it is beyond many/most people's skills.
Child corporal punishment is a good thing, obviously done in moderation where the shame is worse than the pain, and fairness, where he has been told what behavior will earn him a spanking. My last spanking was at an age where I thought I'd never have another, and in front of two friends; I had it coming, and the pain was minimal, but the shame was maximum (which was the intention).
Today you spank a child, and based on what he's been told at school, he may turn you in for assault in spite and anger. Then you get an education in the criminal justice system.
Glad I was fixed decades ago. YMMV

Yeah, my dad used a razor strop for really getting the message across, it worked too. My kids didin't suffer from a lack of instruction either. It didn't seem to leave any permanent marks.
We are now into third generation of 'reasoning' with your child. Uh Uh, I can just see how reasonable 'reasoning' works' today.
The parents are supposed to pass along their 'learnings' with emphasis as needed.

My daughter uses that crap and she has two of the worse little brats I've ever seen. I gave them a spanking at my house once while she was away shopping with my wife. They now NEVER give me any trouble...wonder why? They still act up with their Mom though. Kids are smarter than you think, but negative reinforcement works once properly applied.

I got a sheet load of whompins. If I got a whompin at school for some bad behavior, damn, I got twice as much when I got home.
I could get in trouble up town, and the word would beat me home. Small town. Wouldn't trade it for any thing. It is mostly city kids anymore who get in trouble. Also, they want everything given to them on a silver spoon. They wouldn't last 5 minutes on a farm. They would also respect the world in a whole different picture if they had some farm life.
You know what, I sure wouldn't be where I'm at today if it hadn't of been for those whompins.
PS: My kids were warned, if they kept it up they would get an ass whompin. For some reason or another, they only tried it one more time after being warned.

Not saying our kids are bad at all and don't need spankings although when littler, our boy could've used a few and I did slap his butt pretty hard age 3-4 when he was not doing what we told him. The misses doesn't believe in spankings although I feel they are necessary for some kids more than others.
I have seen kids in grocery stores or in town that could use a good whoopin though for sure.
A good whoppin I say is justified if called for but a lot of parents are abusive to young kids and don't feel that is right either.

"beating" your kids isn't right. BUT, a good swat on the rump with an open hand does wonders. i call it the bowling move.

i was in third grade, Mr. Keller was my principal. one day i saw Mr Keller pick up a kid and shake him in the air above his head, saying, "NOW YOU WOULDN'T DO THAT AT HOME!!" and that little kid was terified!! i thought it looked like fun!! so i told Mr Keller "could you do that to me?" 'cause to me that wasn't a bit of punishment, IT LOOKED LIKE FUN!!! nothing like the butt whipping i'd get as a kid at home, it looked like a ride!! Mr Keller looked at me and said "you better hope i never have to pick you up!".
later that school year, i did something, don't have a clue what it was, but i remember Mr. Keller picking me up and giving me a shake above his head! I WAS HAVING A BLAST!!! Mr. Keller says to me; "NOW YOU WIPE THAT SMILE OFF YOUR FACE YOUNG MAN!!" another time i had been sent to the office, Mr. Keller knew i liked the last ride, so this time he decided to swat my butt with a yard stick. he wacked so hard he cracked the stick in half!! didn't really sting to badly, but it was the last time i remember being in his office. we moved later that year.

Never got a spanking I did not deserve. They were spankings, not beatings. I raised my sons the same. Unfortunately my grandson is not getting the same treatment and is spoiled. Not as bad as some, but I had higher expectations.
