Seems it is time for a new battery.  Any advice on which one to get and where to get it?

Thanks-Scooby

I am sure this will bring a laugh, but I now just buy the best that Walmart offers and then I keep it on a Battery Tender.  Even the expensive batteries don't seem to last a long time.

Warren, you must be mistreating your batteries  Roll Eyes  I have been getting 7 years or more from Yuasa batteries. IMHO the trick is not to let them sit in a semi-discharged condition. Keep a smart charger on them when you're not actively riding.

I took my old battery to advanced auto and they crossed the numbers to one of their brands. It was less than 100 bucks and works fine for me. I keep it on a battery tender when not riding and have never had a problem.

I got my Yuasa from my Honda M/C dlr for just about the same price as the wally world battery. Your results may very well be way different.  2funny Check around a bit BEFORE you pull the trigger.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I recently purchased the premium battery from walmart for about $75. I followed the directions precisely....time will tell.

I'm starting my 5th year on that battery.

The key to any battery is the initial charge.

There is instructions in that battery box, read em.

I had a battery Tender on mine for several years when bike was put away for the winter.    The SOB fried em. like 4 of them, Valkyrie, Chevy Trike, Lawn mower and the snow blower.

I don't like buying 4 batteries at a time.   Even with our shop discount.    So ever since then I have changed battery monitors and knock on wood, no more battery failures.   I figure when I go get the lawn mower out later this summer, it will be flat.    I ain't mowed my yard now for 5 weeks and it is dormant as hell.

I just brought a Yuasa for $80 at my Honda dealer. I tried a Sears diehard lasted 3 years. My Yuasa from my 98 Tourer is still going strong but it is in my lawn tractor.

+1 on RJ's experience with the tender.  I use the oem yausa, initially charge it correctly, and forget about it for 6 0r 7 years.  I'm on my third at 105k miles.  Hoser

Interesting about the battery tenders. I always heard good things about them and always had good luck with mine. Until about two weeks ago. I had a car battery on one and went in the garage the next day and  saw the light on the tender was still on red. Went to unplug it and it was red hot. Checked the voltage on the battery and it was high 13's. Now it may be a bad battery, but I thought the tender should have shut down to a float level.

Anyway, here is an old thread about batteries and the Walmart one I put in last year. It is still going strong.

I just replaced the stock battery in my 2000 STD for the first time this spring because I was going to South Dakota. it wasn't dead or giving me any problems, My 99 I/S on the other hand has had three so far.  and + on the tenders frying batteries, we used to have them on our fire trucks and they would boil the water out of the batteries. replaced batteries every two years, We now have trickle chargers hooked to a timer and charge 1/2 hour a week, 5 years and so far so good.

AGM

I bought the motobat for my bike. Yuasa was something like $159, Motobat delivered for $92.

Then I found the Lithium Ion, double the price, but no loss of power while in storeage (in a townhouse, can't charge in the garage). I would have rather bought a "bigger" better CCA at about 1/7th the weight instead.

Ive tried with other bikes almost every battery type made short of litium too much $$$.
Ive gone through 2 gel batteries from Batteris pPus here alone on my RoadStar in 3 years.
As I ride daily heats the real killer down here.

With the Valk and Ive missued it plenty working on it recharging alot more then normal.
Good old YUSA battiers seem to hold up the longest down here heat and all.

At least that's what they told you.  Take it home and trickle it for 12 hours, just in case.

Batteries are another area where bikers may try and over think. (oil and filters come to mind?)
I have had good luck with motorcycle batteries (and inexpensive oil filters) from Walmart.
