Sad My friend Mike had a bad wreck Friday, when a deer ran into him on a country road near us. He slid about 100', his bike slid another 80' or so. he landed on his elbows during the slide. He broke some bones in his hand, both elbows broke, one destroyed elbow that they did their best to rebuild, broken ribs, punctured lung, and various scrapes. His face shield was gone and helmet scraped pretty bad. He is in Vanderbilt Hospital under deep sedation at present. Deer killed, bike was not torn up bad, believe it or not.  He has a Harley that he has put a lot of money into, custom paint, engine work, etc. Nice bike. He is a good rider, and likes speed, but was no match for the deer.  He is a good guy and likes all motorcycles, he has no hangups on what you ride, and he loves my Valkyrie.  Anyhow, he has a long road of recovery ahead of him now and I know a little prayer on his behalf would not offend him at all.  Everyone please be careful out there. We just never know.

I live on a county road out in the country. The right of way has not been mowed this year by the county. In many sections of the road the johnson grass is 5-6 feet tall and a deer could be standing right next to the road ready to step into a riders path at any moment and you would never see it. I try to keep my speed to a bare minimum until I am in an area where I have at least a little time to react. Sorry to hear of this incident as it sounds like recover will be a long afair.

I hope that he recovers ok.  Hitting deer is not on my list.

Here in Indiana, the corn is high and deer are liable to come out of the corn next to the road without warning.

I hold down my speed in those areas.

After my recent near Inzane miss, where a deer jumped over my Interstate trunk and took out my antenna, I read this with my jaw on the floor. But for God's grace there go I. I wish your friend a speedy and full recovery.

Been there, Done that! Not a fun experience. Can happen to anyone, I don't care how good of a rider you think you are. The one that got me leaped off a high bank onto the highway and landed with his head in the left side of my gas tank. I was running about 60 mph at the time. I don't remember anything about it, but was really very thankful to come out as good as I did. Prayers for your friend from So. Illinois. Hef

thanks everyone. Mike is supposed to be moved today I think, they are easing up his pain meds a little. Looks like a tough recovery, may be nerve damage to one arm.  Only family allowed to see him as of yet.
I almost mowed a deer down just a couple weeks ago, man they are everywhere, and there before you know it. Everyone be careful.
