So here it is, a long weekend, 200 mile cruise Saturday, awful noise coming from back end. Sounds like a very noisy rock crusher. Left rear bearing disintegrated, a block from home.  Up on the jack. I make one phone call, have never done a bearing replacement before on a bike.
Ask Fred what he is up to, he drops over, we live a mile apart. Sunday, dealerships closed, bearing is a total loss. Go to Parts Source, wow they have one. A couple minor problems later, we are on the road for a scoot test drive.
Without the VRCC and buds like Phred, my bike would have been down for 3-4 days, and the long weekend a complete loss, this forum is "GREAT" and guys like Phred are few and far between.
Thanks for being there!!!

How 'bout a few more details for the record:

How many total miles?

Was it a "standard width" bearing, or had you done the "double-row bearing" modification?

How heavy of a load do you normally carry?  (i.e., looking for anything between:  "one skinny little guy"  -to-  "most of the time ride 2-up with both of us overdue on our 'weightwatcher' memberships."

Just wondering....

Let's not get carried away....Don't think that many of the Harley's have the miles put on them that most of the valks get.  Evil

OH, just to say "Good on ya, Fred". I agree we do have a bunch of good folk around here.  cooldude

 " Just the facts Mam"
My  03 Standard, with 100,000 Km's (62000 miles), singled out never doubled,  stayed with factory single bearing, darkside Goodyear Triple . As far as I know the bearing had never been done til now, the right side was fine. Put a couple hundred miles on her today and all is well. With our 6 month riding season its getting  harder to put more than 30-40,000 Kms on her a year, that's like 20-25000 miles a summer. Canadian winters are way too long.
Your absolutely correct about "good" people in the organization.
Thanks again Fred.

Awwww, shucks. Twern't nothin. Besides it let me put off installing the trailer light controller and run/backoff brake light on my IS for another week or so.

Would have replaced both, but Part Source only had the single row in stock, and your son did most of the work breaking what was left of the bearing out of the wheel (three attacks with the Dremmel and two chisels). Sorry I didn't notice the inner spacer sooner. Would have saved us tapping the bearing out the second time.

Thanks for the coffee and the beer,
Fred.
