HI

I just bought a Valkyrie with 53k miles on it. There's a low rumbling sound coming from the engine. When I pull the clutch lever, the noise disappears, when I release the clutch lever, the noise returns. I took it to a bike dealer, but they're not certified Honda mechanics, which they were upfront about. They found rubber and metal shavings in the clutch cover, but that's as far as they would go.
Before I turn it over to a Honda dealer, does anyone have any theories about this noise?

Thanks!

Did you see the reply about your clutch rivets on the VOAI? Most likely that is your problem.

If this only happenes in neutral....dont take it to the mechanic...its perectly normal, they all do it

OK, I missed the part about the stuff they found inside......as I have never taken a cover off before I dont know if thats normal wear (it doesnt sound normal) but if you clean that out and it runs fine, Id check it again in a few thousand miles....the noise you described is normal in neutral

I agree with Chrisj CMA - that sounds like a normal noise.  But I don't know where that rubber and metal would come from.  Maybe the seal around the release rod?  When I changed my clutch last year the only thing I found were a few sheared rivets.

The engine noise is ever present, not just in neutral.  It abates only when the clutch lever is pulled. The clutch cover had metal shavings and rubber shavings in it.  This can't be normal.

It's not normal.

Rubber is from a seal. Could be remnants from an older operation to make repairs.

Metal shavings should be checked for steel or aluminum. Size and quantity of shavings is important in deciding what to do.

The cover should have been checked along with any other areas that need close attention and viewing. The shop should have done that.

What did the PO have to add to the inquiry?
