Well do I feel stupid.. serveral times this summer light came on dash..Thought it was oil pressure but in reality its the overheating light.. when Im riding all is good only happens when stopped for long periods at lights ect.. Closer inspection today appears fan not comming on is it the fan switch or the fan? hmm 1999 Is 85000 miles like some suggestions as to how to decide   what is wrong thanks in advance Dave M

The fan switch is on the lower left side of the radiator.  Pull the lead off and short it to ground.  The fan should come on (motor running or ign switch on).  If it does, its the switch.  If it doesn't its either wiring, the fuse or the fan.

This may sound a little simple,....but have you checked the coolant level?

The temperture switch is located on the lower left of the radiator. The coolant will need to be drained to remove T-switch for testing.

check the fuse first.my 2k std popped the fuse one day.turned out that plastic sheild behind the fan had wedged itself against the fan blade, pulled back and it's been fine ever since.

I'm assuming you turned your key to "on" when you grounded the wire?...... Had to ask.  Wink

Run some jumper wires from battery to fan, before you purchase new fan.

I have a virtually new fan assembly that I'd sell for $85.00 plus shipping.
If interested email me at: dukenjoey@yahoo.com
