I don't know what gives here.Has anyone noticed shorter tire life from the Avon Cobras compared to the old Venoms.I was getting 18-20K out of the venoms.Just replaced my first cobra today,it was showing wear bars at a little over 10k Angry I'm not interested in going DS,but I need more miles between changes.

My current rear Cobra (2nd one) has 16K on it with lots more tread left. No cupping or splitting between treads. Run 46 PSI all the time.

I had Avon Cobra's on my Interstate, ran 46 lbs air in the rear and 42 in the front & I was one of many that had the rear tire separate around the 12,000 mile (20,000 km) mark.
I liked the feel of the Avon's but their blow out history has me scared.

I hope they get the problem rectified, (if they already haven't), so I can go back to them.

Overall,  I have been reading up on this forum and elsewhere and most, not all, seem to be getting less miles out of the new AVon Cobra vs. the Avon Venom old make.  The worst miles overall with most postings I have read are with Metzelers while the most miles usually are with Dunlop Elite III's.    Even Avon mfg. I contacted agreed that the Dunlop Elite III's may last longer by a few 1,000 miles but they claim won't adhere and grip to the road near as well as their Avon Cobra's.  Also have heard more issues lately with Avon Cobra's like more defects and front wheel wobble at around 30-40 mph.  Could be all heresay though.  If I get 14K out of my front and at least 12K out of my rear Avon Cobra's I'll be happy.  So far with about 5-6K on both front and rear, looks like for sure I will be getting another 5-7K or so I hope.  If I put more than say 8K per year on a set of tires, I would definitely be going by the way of the darkside for a rear tire since makes the most sense.

Just changed out a front Metzler ME880 with only about 6k on it.  I kept as close to 42 psi in it.  Before I installed it the tire was stored in my non heated garage for about three years. It was wrapped in plastic in a sealed box. The tire seemed to be wearing FAST.  On a resent trip I could smell rubber each time I stopped for fuel and the tire was properly inflated.  I ended up replacing it with an E3 while on the trip.  No more Metzlers for me.

My '97 Tourer has 256K = about 17.7K per year.  Have used Avons the last 10 years.  I always average 28 to 30K on front and 18 to 20K on rear.  I ride single up and have pretty much settled in at 40 PSI cold front and rear.  Ya' gott'a watch the right wrist and stay away from Harleys!!

My rear Avon Cobra went 7922 miles, from new, to the threads showing through on the left side of the tire. The center of the tire had just hit the tread wear indicators. I ride two up most of the time. Replaced it with a Metzeler because I was on a cross country trip and that was all the dealership had in stock. On a side note, I watched a video on Youtube about changing the rear tire on a newer Goldwing. Ten minute job to get the wheel off, I wish the Valkyrie was that easy!

I wouldn't want to ssecond guess you, so my question is:  Did YOU do the R & R on your last rear tire change or was it a dealership or MC shop?  Judging by your comment, my guess is that the proper sequence that must be followed to insure proper alignment of the back wheel was not followed.

I did all the work on the last rear tire. I followed the procedure outlined in the service manual. If you go to rattlebars web site, and read the information on tire wear, you will see that left side tire wear is common on the I/S. There is a picture of a rear Cobra, about 3/4 of the way down, on the right side of the page. While that is not my tire, it looks exactly like the one I replaced.

The tires wear more on the left side due to cornering, On any curve in the US you are on the outside of the curve, therefore you travel farther leaning to the left than to the right. The harder you ride, the greater the difference.
