Exhaust stud
«

I just picked an Interstate in Texas , rode it home to Md. , kept hearing a rattle and I 've found it . One broken stud and one loose acorn nut on the right side exhaust. Is this replaceable ?
Thanks in advance , I know someboby has been down this road .

Yes....order some studs fron HDL. You will have to remove that side exhaust and carfully coax the broken stud out. It has a small shoulder designed to make it break with something sticking out from the block. I would run the motor and then remove the exhaust as soon as it cools off enough to handle the pipes, but hopefully the block will still be warm....a bit of penetrating oil and vise grips hopefully will do the job

I've changed several and what Chrisj says is true. I can only add use some good quaitly visegrips to remove the stud. I had h3ll with one trying to use some cheap grips. I finally went and found my old pair and the stud came right out.

I just had a couple of these back out when loosening/ removing the flange nuts on a project bike. After getting it out, one of the studs snapped when I attempted to remove the nut. Just ordered a new one earlier today. Here's the part number:
90035-MN5-000 BOLT, STUD (8-6X40)

If he is mentioning a rattling with a broken stud and one loose nut, I am curious if he is speaking of the exhaust hanger bolts at rear of exhaust. I've seen several of these broken.
