Just got some new rain gear. Tested it today. Perfect. But the Valkyrie quit twice on the interstate after sucking water in. The air box was modified prior to my procurement of the bike. A k&n filter was installed along with the pcv pipe being removed. I replaced the short hose and filter and reconnected the box to the crankcase with a tube. That fixed my oily smell. Any ideas what may havebeen done to the box that causes it to suck water? To thebest of my knowledge its all back the wayhonda intended. Ideas? It was to be honest a huge torrential downpour. Once on side streets she was fine. But at highway speeds it wont stop drinking the water. I had to stop twice and wait. Then keep turning it over to get the water through the system. Nearly draining my battery (glad I got a gel cell with more cca) .  I feared id burn up the starter. Any help? Email me please.I'm taking a week long trip and rain is no issue for me except if the bike wont run. Bluetoastmedia@gmail.com

There its an air vent tube that hangs from the back side bottom of the gas tank and it hangs down behind the motor.  There should be a plastic T inserted in the middle of this tube with one end left open allowing the water to vent out.
Check to see if this line has the T.  If not this could very well be your problem..

I have read on different forums that some people drilled holes in the front of their air box for maximum air intake. That would be one possibility.

Check for hose going to the Tee fitting from tank and
vacuum hose from Carb #6 for any kinks.

I will do all of those things. Thank you. Is there supposed to be anything else inside the box besides the filter? Usually there's a sponge in automotive but I'm not sure on this bike. All that's in there is the darned K&N filter. I cleaned it when I got it. K&N says every 30k miles I believe. I understand why you'd want one since you have to remove the tank to change the stock one very often. I'm also going to check the top of the housing again. I know for sure it was water, as I was on on the highway and clipping at about 65 in a torrential downpour. On side streets it was fine. And after sitting for a bit she dried out. It sputtered and sputtered and just kept wanting to die. Nothing would keep her alive. And I had to choke it once it started, to keep it going for about 30 seconds.
