A new hazard has been identified...

Caught an empty black plastic garbage bag while heading north on 75 yesterday.  The bag's convenient pull tie wrapped around the horn and would not release.  I was unable to kick the bag off; had to stop at the next exit and endure the inevitable "what's that smell?" comment from the back seat.  The pungent odor of the heat shrunk plastic wrap on the on the exhaust for the next 3 hours of the trip was indeed special.  And the two hours it took to clean up the pipes after the ride provided the physical activity for the day.

Be careful out there.....

I'll take your plastic bag anytime over a sheet of plywood, a 2X4 about 8' long or a ladder.........

Had all 3 of those land in front of me on the bike over the years.

That does sound like a wonderful smell.  I'm glad it didn't kick up higher, though, and try to wrap itself around your head!

Not sure what you used to clean up the pipes with but I found Easy Off oven cleaner works best.

watch those plastic bags!  I had one seal itself across my radiator on the VMax one day.  I pulled over and removed it - it was stuck pretty good.  That cannot be good for the bike.

Hit a big piece of plastic that was blowing across I-35 near San Marcos while I was driving a Dodge Van.  It managed to wrap itself around the drive shaft...took me 20 minutes to cut it off while stopped on the side of the interstate.  Tore off the rear seal on the transmission and bent the drive shaft.  Ended up replacing both.

I'd hate to think if I had hit that piece plastic on a bike!

FYI...A guy here in Austin just died from injuries incurred after hitting debris in the road while riding his motorcycle last week.  It happened in an area that I ride/drive through all the time.  Speeds are usually pretty slow where it happened - William Cannon Drive and HWY 290 in southwest Austin - and the report says the "incident remains under investigation".  Sounds like something fell off of something right in front of the rider giving him little to no chance to take evasive action.

My heart goes out to his family and friends for their sudden loss...
