Was out riding tonite and while accelerating through traffic the Valk For lack of a better term Hiccuped? I had a momentary(blink of the eye) power loss. Felt it and by the time I looked at the tach it was over. Can't get it to repeat and even rode over the same stretch of road again 3-4 times to see if there was a pressure ridge or other roadway deformity that may of caused the little occcurrence that I felt. Nothing. I thought I saw something here at one point about this, but can't find it.  AM I going nuts or is there an explanation for this?  uglystupid2 crazy2 Cheesy

It's not uncommon.  If you do a search for hiccup, you'll find a few threads.  Most seem to think it is something to do with the icm.  Most have reported it happened a couple of times then didn't happen again.

THe little red kill button on the handlebar was the cause of mine. I pulled it and cleaned the contacts with spray cleaner and it has don't it since. Mine did it in rush hour traffic with the wife aboard gave me a little pucker factor cause it didn't start right back up I had to cycle the switch several times before it lit back off.

This is different.  Yours died.  The hiccup is like 1/10 of a second.  Bike keeps running fine.

I have had it happen a couple, three times on my 97.  Has not happened with my IS.

It's happened two or three times on my 97, but not in the last couple of years.

Mine did it on the way back from the B/G ride a few yrs ago. When my restarted it let out a hell of a back fire. Scared the crap out of me. Never done it since.

I have a 2000 Interstate that has done that 2 or 3 times in the last 4 years. I thought it was a spline slipped a gear. But after reading here. I think it is as you said a momentary loss of ignition. I tightened the ground on the battery and engine. Not sure if that will do anything or not. I will let you know in a couple of years...  Smiley

I think this is just one other thing that makes the Valk special...

Checked mine over when it happened and found my battery terminals were a little loose.  Only thing I found and it hasn't done it again.

My Standard has done that three or four times in eight years and 156,000 miles.  It's so infrequent I haven't concerned myself with it and others have had a similar experience.

Incidentally this explanation doesn't necessarily mean you are not going nuts.   Wink

My 99 I/S did it last yr. on the way to Sturgis on I-90.  This yr it happened again on the way out & I swear it was about the same place just out of Mitchel SD.  Maybe  a flash back.  But it did happen.

As was said,  was momentary & did not affect the running or performance afterwards or since.

This happened to me Saturday morning on a 70 mile breakfast ride. My first thought was what the heck was that and did it really happen. Cannot explain it any different than what has been stated already. 99 I/S, garaged it's whole life, 16K miles, 12K miles by me in last 2 years.

I hope it doesn't happen again.  uglystupid2

Its a well known phenomenon.  Any time a Valkyrie comes in close proximity to an earth vortex it causes a momentary fluctuation in the force that causes the ICM to hiccup. My bike hardly runs at all when I'm in Sedona - its loaded with them.  You don't want to linger too long in the vortex because it could cause dimensional instability and nobody wants that.  This was Honda's way of warning you when you're too close to one.  Valkyries were very well thought out.
