How do i get the drive shaft to release from the pinion cup?

Have had them just pop off with slight pull and have fought like heck on my latest. Just have to pull it straight out. Manual says turn while pulling which isn't the easiest thing to do. It can be a struggle on some but it WILL let go eventually with much effort and cussing. Sorry, no easy answer for you......

Generally, I put rags/such down for a soft place to land, hold the entire thing by the shaft a couple inches above the rags, then tap on the pinion cup with a hammer. Usually pops right out.

put a towel down on the grass grab the shaft drop it down slightly and  yank up on the shaft should pop out.

I got it flooded it with tri-flo lubricant and it came off alot of red powder in there after cleaning it up looks like i'll be buying a new shaft and cup splines going into the cup pretty much gone.Thanks for the help.

On another note my original problem was a clicking noise when i pulled in last night after a run this weekend to WV.
When i tore it down i found a lot of metal shavings on the the hub side of the rear have no idea where they came from. The collar that goes between goes between the 2 bearings on the brake side looks like it was rubbing some where but i don't know how that could happen.The filings were all over the hub where the dampers are,don't know where they came from so i still haven't found the first problem any suggestions?

Make sure the thrust washer is between the star/hub and the wheel...the star pops out of the wheel, there should be a teflon washer there between it and the wheel/bearing surface.

The hub...where the right side wheel bearing is.  That hub should be flat at the level of the outer bearing face and smooth and square out to the edge if its diameter.  If the corners are roudned off badly or there is a step wore into the hub that is where the metal filings came from.  If thats the case, double check the dampners they are probably shot.  Also, if the flange moves (wobbles) that much it will cause the drive splines to deteriorate at a highly accerlerated rate........

I just put new dampeners in this year over the winter.What do you mean if the flange moves(whats the flange)?

The flange is that star looking thing with the male splines on it.  If the hub underneath the flange (under where the thrust washer goes) is flat and smooth then thats not where the metal shavings are coming from.  Just trying to point you to where others have had problems.........

The flange looks beautiful with the plastic spacer in tact.
When i got the shaft out of the pinion cup it was dry as a bone and the 2 holes for lubrication blocked,the splines are pretty much shot so i ordered a new shaft and pinion cup to back in.
I'm stumped on where the shavings came from every thing on the right side looks good and that is where they were, i'm going to hate to put this back together and not find the problem.
