Hi Guys,

When putting the wheel back on and mating it up to the pumpkin how do you know its properly aligned and fitting properly?

We have it all bolted up with the three o-rings, wheel dampeners, and trust washer all replaced. The wheel turns freely and the brake disc is sitting in the middle of the caliper nicely. However, the polished surface of the wheel has a small raised ridge and a lower milled out channel showing around the black edge of the pumkin. Should these be visible? I can't remember seeing them before we took the wheel off, but I could be wrong.

Just want to make sure its all spot on before hitting the road.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, that is the way it is built.  To be sure aligned, be sure you tighten the four bolts on the swing arm LAST.

Thanks MP,

That makes me feel better. It's easy to get a bit paranoid when you do these things for the first time.

I am pleased to say that my splines were perfect although a bit dry, and all three o-rings and trust washer were in place when we tore it down.

Also made sure the 4 pumpkin bolts were just finger tight when we did the axle up, and nipped them up last of all.

last of all?....the four final drive bolts should be the very next move after torquing the axle.......

What do you mean Chris? Everything I read says to leave the 4 pumpkin bolts until the wheel is back on and the axle is torqued. That would imply that the 4 bolts are the last thing you do. What steps are you suggesting occur between the axle bolt and and doing the pumpkin bolts?

When you say last, some may think you mean very last.  There are shocks to put on taking the bike off the lift, redoing exhaust, maybe a fender piece.  All Im saying is that specifically after you torque the axle you imediately tighten the 4 final drive bolts even if that is not the  "last"  thing you have to do.

Thanks Chris,

I know we put the shocks back on before tightening the pumkin, but the bike was still up on the lift at that point. I can't see how that would cause an alignment problem.

Most likely as long as you didnt have them on when you torqued the axle youre fine.  But thats what I mean by some that keep saying the pumkin bolts go "last"  They need to go NEXT after the axle.

Ok thanks Chris,

Yes we did the axle before the shocks were on so all should be peachy!

Thanks,
