So riding home this evening, I hit the brakes and heard a slap clunk sound from the front end. It happned a couple times, not in a row. Any ideas?

Spring in the caliper holding the pads needs to be tightened up.
Just give it a bend.
I just had the same issue in my right front caliper 2 weeks ago.

Sometimes my brakes make a clunk noise when stopping....did you feel any vibration in the handlebars or possibly from the seat....try to give you a idea if the issue is in the front or the back.

See those big round rivets that separate the disk brake rotor from the inner rotor, that's what is making the clank or clunk you are hearing. Roll your bike backwards and hit the brakes, you should hear a clank, then roll it forward, you should hear the same clank. The rivets are starting to roll a little. These rivets keep the heat from getting to your front wheel bearing.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

That is certainly a possibility.
You can grab the rotor and move it actually with your hand. Mine do!
They make no noise however.
