Hangin' out here beats a tree on the head any day!

The Alabama NBHA State Championships (barrel racing....with horses.....for you non-horse folks!) were held down in Andalusia last weekend. BamaJack, Phyllis, Sherry, Susan and I all went down for the weekend. The girls qualified to enter multiple horses (4)....so they got to do a lot of running.

when the dust had settled....here's what happend (for our fearless riders) :

1. Susan ran fast enough times early on....that she was invited back to the Finals on Sunday. She wound up 10th (out of hundreds that were there for the event). FOR HER, that's pretty good....BUT NOT REAL GOOD. She has won several titles, and frequently places in the top 10. BUt....it was good still..

2. SHERRY WON HER DIVSION IN THE SENIORS (eh....that's for 50 and over riders). She won a really cool saddle engraved with her Championship details! So she is the Seniors Alabama Champion in her division!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. As such, the horse she won that Championship with.....was up for sale (we're trying to get down to 4 horses so when Susan leaves for Vet Grad college, Sherry isn't quite so busy taking care of horses!)............for a reasonable amount of money. BUT........after winning her division............THE PRICE DOUBLED. And interest doubled. She made the sale, and it will be finalized THIS weekend when they come to pick up the horse in Montgomery. So....winning that division, not only got her the cool saddle and bragging rights (and some money too!)....it helped in the sale of a horse they were advertising!

4. I trailered Susan's smaller two horse trailer down with supplies....and we were trying to sell it for her too. Again, she won't have time for the next 4 years to be doing nearly as much riding, etc....so she wanted to sell that trailer. Sherry still has a big 4 hourse trailer with living quarters...so when Susan comes home to visit....she can use that one if needed. Anyway, her trailer got lots of exposure at the horse show......and ....BINGO.....it got sold!

So, Sherry wins, Susan does good (but doesn't win it all), horse sells as desired....but for more money....trailer sells............we had a great time............

i'd say that was a good weekend! oh, i rode my bike when i got home Sunday......so now........it's bike related  cooldude  Cheesy

Congrats to your family and especialy your girls! Great job.
My wife and daughter run NBHA here in Texas. The young'n has gone to the youth world in Jackson MS. This past week we were at the Texas Jr. High Wrangler State finals.
She is a sixth grader, qualified in poles, finished 4th in the state and made the Texas Nationals team. So we'll be leaving for Gallup New Mexico at the end of the month.

By the way, anybody have a stall or know of any horse hotels between The Woodlands Tx and Gallop NM let me hear from ya, not goint to drive straight through. Looking for a stop some where around the border of Tx & NM. Will head to Abilene first then depending on facilities can make adjustments from there. Going from sea level to 6500'+ will require a little acclimation time for the pony.

 cooldude GREAT  cooldude

Congratulations to Sherry for a job well done!

But, Tim...... Something tells me that you probably shouldn't have mentioned that SENIOR thing.

She's likely to make you "PAY" for that one.  Grin

there is an internet site for boarding overnight. We're listed in there (Lucky 7 Ranch, Titus, AL). Of course, we're to your East...the opposite direction. But there will be many listed in there i would think on your way. Sherry knows the web site...i don't.....sorry. We take over night borders all the time......

congrats to your daughter. Susan as been to the World in Jackson MANY times....and finished in the top 10 in the World several times. She ran the fastest time one year in the qualifying rounds at the World....and won some big $$$.  She's also been back to the finals at the World several times ....but ....never won it all.........

Cool. Were going to pass this year for youth world. She will miss Paint World cause we'll be at nationals. She is the current champion pole bender for paint world held in fort worth.
I did google horse hotels and found some places. Nice ones too and not that expesive. Just need to figure how far we want to go and what route we'll take. Thanks

Congrats.  cooldude
Those barrel horses are too hot for me. I like the nice slow ones. We sold a grand daughter of Pacific Bailey, too fast for this old boy. I hope your hay situation has gotter better than it has been in the last few years because of the drought. Downsizing makes it easier to spend more time with each horse, and its easier on the pocketbook too.
