Anyone ever cut/shortened their factory antennas?

I'd be interested in the responses because I've caught the radio antenna on the garage door once or twice and put a bend in it. They straighten out all right but I would like a shorter one.

you can shorten the radio a little but not the cb. it has to be a certain length or the output amp will not like it.

google cb radio swr. Smiley

I don't need to worry about the CB because the unit wasn't on the bike when I bought it only the AM/FM antenna.

You looking for a radio antenna like this type or size?

All it took was a little slow hand work but this is just a cheapo auto parts store rubber replacement car radio antenna, wont work for the CB. I used the original base and matted it to the adapter in the antenna package, I ground down the threaded adapter so it would fit in the exact slotted mount inside the base of the antenna and use a small roll pin to mate them together. Sorry no build pictures of this.

Nope none that I have noticed on the bike from Northern Ca. to Las Vegas NV. I also have the same exact aftermarket auto antenna on my sons 98 GT mustang and being a 20y/o kid if it altered the radio reception he would have said some thing.

I guess if needed I could pull it apart and post the pictures of the internals, it doesn't ruin the stock antenna or mount but the little pin that allows the sticker to fold is destroyed so gong back to stock might be a challenge since I don't think you can buy individual antenna pieces from Mother Honda?

Yes, I've shortened a few CB antennas while tuning the CB with an SWR meter.  None of the antennas needed much trimming to get the proper SWR readings...maybe an inch or so.  A dremel with the cutoff wheel did a nice, clean, quick job.

If you indiscriminately cut the CB antenna shorter without measuring the SWR then you stand a chance of damaging the CB unit.

Can't help with the FM side info you need.
