Dag and Dial-a-Jet

Dag,  A while back you talked about getting more power out of the dial-a-jet.  So using your setup as a reference I did a little tweeking on mine.  Generally my plugs had a slight black suet so I knew it was slightly rich. Now after the tweeking I have never seen plugs so clean. I put about 200 mi on it and I didn't know how to address it.  No suet of any color, no specks, no burn and no sign of color change do to heat. I am willing to bet if I put new plugs in and drove it an other 200 mi. they would look like new.  This is kinda scary to me, because I have never seen plugs this clean. What do you think !! Little lean.

Do I understand you right, you have installed the DAJ?

I installed mine exactly two years ago, June 26th 2007 
I have not changed my spark plugs since. They still looks new.

Mine is running too lean at low RPM now. I adjusted the pilot screws only 3/4 turn out and opened for more fuel from the DAJ.
It`s running perfect from 2000 RPM and up, when the DAJ really starts workong. I have to do somthing with the low RPM, but I have not decided what... I have to think, or maybe someone have a good suggestion?
I`m really looking forward to get it on the dyno now...
I hope there is a dyno at the European Inzane in Finland in two weeks.

Thanks Dag,  In my whole life have never seen plugs like that come out of a vehicle.  I did want to start melting valves and make ash trays out of my pistons. I feel better now, I thank you again.

Hi Dag , if you don't mind could you explain to me what you did and what is the dial a jet .... where do you install it , how many do you need for six carbs and how involved is it to install and how much is the dial a jet ... pardon my ignorance Dag ,  I have never heard of this procedure or product , I have heard you mention of it but that about it .... do you have anything recorded in pictures showing how to install I assume on the carbs and is it easy for the backyard mechanic ? ......  Thanks Old Geezer Richard

Dial A Jet is a 2nd fuel system. It would allow you to run the bike really lean, and use the jet settings to richen it up for optimal performance.
Its easy to install and performes good. You will have to re-jet, one to two sizes down on main jets.

Dag,   Have ever had any issues with your new setting.  I reset my DAJ a little different then yours, I have a '99. This happened once, I was on a 50mph highway and the person in front was going 35mph. I nailed it and went around him, then the bike sounded like not all cylinders were firing. I was coming to stop at a red light and it started to backfire on the right side. I then took off but it didn't sound great, but after a few minutes it seemed to clear up. After that it seemed OK , when I got home I checked the plugs, no excessive gas and no suet.  Totally lost on what it could be, I thought maybe raw fuel got dumped in one of the cylinders and ended up in the muffler which would back fire. I don't know.

Changed setting yesterday. Gave her a little more fuel through the carbs because I`m going to the European Inzane this week.
Leaving Tuesday morning for Finland.... CANT WAIT   

I adjusted the pilots 1.1/4 turn out

I have had some backfire of the left side, from #2 at low RPM (less than 3000)
I changed the exhaust gaskets, intake o-rings and checked the vacuum line plug. I`m not sure, but I think it was because I was running her so lean on low rpm.
