Des Moines, IA

OMAHA, Neb. -- A state patrol airplane took over a high-speed chase of a motorcyclist Monday when the driver gunned the bike to 150 mph through Omaha and into Iowa.

The chase began when troopers clocked James McPeck, of Omaha, at 93 mph in a 60 mph zone, said Nebraska state patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins.

The 20-year-old took off, heading north on 108th Street and exited on Highway 133, Collins said.

The motorcyclist avoided a road block near Blair and then headed toward Fremont. At Fremont, the motorcyclist turned east on Highway 275, Collins said.

With the state patrol's Cessna overhead, the patrol's ground units fell back as the motorcyclist continued into Omaha at speeds exceeding 150 mph. He crossed into Iowa via Interstate 680 and ran out of gas at mile marker 1, Collins said.

McPeck was arrested and charged with willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, no valid registration and other charges.

Collins said the chase covered about 60 miles in 40 minutes.

Probably should have just stopped and paid the fine.
Maybe he thought he was safe after he crossed the state line?
Too much watching fast and the furious?
I wouldn't want to see his next insurance policy premium either.

With no valid regristration I doubt he had insurance.  If he does manage to get to ride again, prolly just get liability without comp and collision.  Its cheap.  You can tell he wasnt on a ZX14 or would have been 180+.  Cessna cant keep up with that, but Motorola dont have any problem.  Kudos to the police, they handled it perfectly, high speed chases need to be outlawed nation wide, not only a danger to the perp, the police themselves, but everyone else on the highway.

I did a similar thing in '73 on a SL-350 once (although I probably never exceeded 50 mph because I had a big-ol sprocket on da back). Ran through the neighborhoods and through back yards with three cop cars in pursuit.

My crime? I was at the local YMCA baseball field running the bases on my bike kicking up one hell of a dust cloud!

I recall one lady was hanging her wash on the clothes line when I blew through her backyard  Shocked taking out one of her sheets! I was lucky and didn't get caught....not many choppers in the air back then.  AHHH  to be young and dumb....... Cheesy

that the kid probably thought that if he ran they'd just go away.
Perhaps he'll learn something from the experience.
