The Twilight Zone

« on: September 24, 2012, 07:15:43 AM »

I'm interested in a I/S and looking for tips on what to check. Just want to make sure  I cross every T and dot every i bc they want some big bucks for that thang!  It doesn't have a cb or attenna and I learned from here that the cb's ain't cheap. I know that the engines the same as mine and how it should sound and so forth. I've never ridden an I/S and don't know anyone near me that has one so I don't know how they handle. I read a lot of stuff here and and found I can expect top heavy and not as nimble in the twisties as my standard. Aside from the obvious, how can I tell if it's been wrecked?

Thanks for any thoughts and advice in advance. I just don't wanna make a big $$$$ mistake!

Not that much different other than the obvious.  About it being wrecked, look for cracks or rust around the tube joints, do the handle bars look like they are running 90 degrees to the front wheel when driving?  You already know most of the trouble areas since you have a standard.  If you want a CB, buy a bike that has one installed and working.  Look for a bike with all the bling on it, don't settle for less than you want, you might not get another chance to buy one.  Smiley

Thanks Thunderbolt, I'f I had a CB I probably wouldn't use it, it's just the idea of NOT having one! Lol! I got out of CB's years ago. It would be nice to communicate on a ride as a tailgunner or lead. Seems the ones that have all the bling either I miss or they're way over priced - or too many miles. It's always something!  Grin

if it has a trailer hitch you will need to check the pumpkin and the drive gears.
that's kinda hard on them if not taken care of properly coolsmiley

That's good advice. I've always been a little leary of them just because you don't know how much they've been used. I personally don't want a trailer and it would take the fun out of the twisties!  cooldude
