I had some Iridium plugs lying around and so I put them in my bike. I ran them when it was warm and seem to be OK. This morning it was 60*when the bike started and idled there was an occasional pop. I didn't think much of it because I figured it would stop when it warms up. Got on the road and about 10 miles out, at lower rpm and starting to turn the throttle it would have little pops. When I gave it the gas I had no issues, but cruising about 30-35 I had slight pops. I got home I changed the plugs to regular NGK7s and it idled and ran good, but not have taken on any distance yet. Has anyone had issues with Iridium plugs?

i have the iridium plugs but they were installed at the same time i did a slow jet swap out and a desmog my bike never popped before the service and now it pops once in a while but now that you mention it i might swap my old plugs back in to see if that changes it i allready did a carb sync and its a bit better but i would like to get rid of any popping at all i do have stock pipes and they are on tight and have a pingle petcock so all the vacuum leaks should be gone keep board posted of any changes

I'd be willing to bet you got some bad gas.
At your next fill up pour in half a can of Berryman B12 Chemtool.
B12 Chemtool costs around $4.00 at AutoZone.

Sparkplugs won't cause the popping, but bad gas can cause a multitude of horrendous symptoms.

Well so far with the NGK's in it, it doesn't pop so far. Before I read about the B-12 I put some Tectron in the tank and see how that goes. I did notice that it starts to break up around 3000 t0 3500rpm but when I nail it, it goes like raped ape. Far as gas it has never had 10% in it, always use strait premium gas in it. Guess I'll have to play with it, sinfully I only put 200 miles on it this season. Shame on me!!!! Got to stay off that bicycle and work on the VAlk.

200 miles all season?  Did you use fresh fuel each time or get by on two tanks?  that may be he source of the popping.  I've seen non-ethanol regular at special gas stations, albeit far and few, but not premium.  Everything premium near me is 10% ethanol.

Ya!!  200 miles all season shameful. No it was fresh gas, we have few around here that sells real Prem. gas. At least it says on the pump. If I recall correctly it is a federal law that what comes out of the pump has to be noted on the pump. Also I am running a Dial-A-Jet system.

My bike started to pop a little after a long trip. I installed the Iridiums because I had been wanting to try them, but the popping persisted. Got several suggestions from the board, but it continued. As it turned out it was the carb syncing that was needed, it runs like a good dream.

I don't understand the question. Did you mean am I having problems with it or did you mean how do I like the way it preforms. Am I having issues with it, no it is working fine.  Far as performance, it scared the hell out of me the first time I nailed it. Turn the throttle and the bike comes alive more.

You need to start putting some miles on that bike for the health of the bike and yours.  Cheesy

Inactivity is hard on any bike, more so on a Valkyrie.  200 miles is a short day ride. Take the time to ride it more, you need it too. Hoser   Wink

You guys are right I have been neglectful to the Valk. and not given her the attention she needs.  I put almost 2000 miles on my mountain bike and only less then 200 on the Valk. I guess I'll take her for a cruise and see if she coughs or pops. I gave her a little Geritol (Tectron) and see how she preforms.

I use about 2 ozs of Tecron mixed with MMO <50/50>per tank every tank.
I cant say if it acually helps but it certainly hasnt hurt.
All internal fuel parts on my bike are clean enough to eat off of.
Including cheapy Autolite 4164 plugs.
I use them in all my bikes.
NGKs when Autolite arent available.
Ive not seen any advantages to a more expensive Iridum plug.
Berrymans B-12.
I have found while a good cleaner had swelled the O-rings on my Valk to the point they had to be changed.
The rings had frayed for lack of a better explaination.
You could see black where the manifiolds mated up to the engine.
GMs fuel injection cleaner did the same thing to the manifold O-rings.
Went with generic o-rings intially they werent very good quality.
I used OEM Honda rings the last time so far very good results.
I have a spare set from Redeye I believe, for the next time if needed.

May I recomend a half oz. of Startron to a tank of gas just before filling?  This stuff is like magic!  Available at most Marine stores.  Check on line for near you.  8 oz bottle about $10.  I got mine at West Marine.  Nope, I am not a stock holder Grin

Also, you might check the tightness of the carb clamps, all 18 of them, to make sure they're tight. They've been known to cause popping as well.

+1 on JC's comments. Have you checked/changed the Orings on your intakes?

I think I might grab a 10mm wrench & check your exhaust manifold, They do loosen up & they will draw air back in & cause popping on decelerating, specially on cooler days.

Nice looking Bike (i think) pics a bit small. Only about 5 miles from you & I know i would have remembered that bike if i would have seen it on the road.

I just took the bike for a short run and I had no popping after I changed the plugs to the NGK 7's but it starts to break up between 3000-4000 if I hold it.  If I nail it it runs fine. When It cools down I will check the exhaust and the intake tube  also the rubber couplers, maybe they came loose.

Don, I often went to cruise night in Mt Clemens on Wed night.
