I'm on my 3rd Lowrance 600c now and still have the same problems. When I get it up to 65+mph (or around 3200rpm or so) it skips, locks up, reboots itself and looses it skin?

I have it hard mounted to the handle bars in the center on a aluminum plate. There's verry little vibration (It's a Valk.)

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a remedy? or do I just have to go out and buy somthing with a chip memmory?

Thanks for the help,
Steve

I second that MC....

Steve, I too almost bought the 600c until I talked to a fellow valky rider and they convinced me of the zumo550.  I see that the Zumo650 is the newer of the two and is 100.00 cheaper than the 550.  For what ever reason, I don't know.   They have the same "stuff" in the box.   But, I can't give you too much advice on the Lowrance.  One thing that I didn't like about it was the size.

Anyhow, I feel for ya man...   Best of luck to you...

My Lowrance 500C has never given me any trouble. Here's how mine is mounted in case there's a difference.

No need to get another GPS. You need to fabricate an anti-vibration mount to isolate your unit from the handlbar vibrations. I know ... the Valk doesn't vibrate as much as most motorcycles .,.. but it does ... and often affects our units negatively.
I have never had a problem on mine. I don't have pics right now, but could dig some up later on (weekend or next week).
Good luck! Smiley

stude31:
The 550 has more features than the 660.  The 660 is kind of a stripped down version.

I had read of others having trouble and some had made a rubber mount.  I made my own.  A couple of pieces of aluminum and some screws, nuts, rubber washers, and rubber stand off pieces.

I've a 600c and am very satisfied with it's functionality and reliability (knock on wood!).  I went to my local hardware store and picked up several rubber washers and installed them under the 600c's mounting bracket.  I recently rode approx 2550 miles with no issues at all.

Thanks Guys!!!!    Problem Solved!!!!   I put a rubber spacer in between the GPS & the mount and had it up to 70++ along with some high speed shifting and the Blues was just as smoothe as they can get.    Cool

Now if it would just stop raining...

Good move Steve!| Next time I visit my bud Bill Pollack in Albany, I could give you a holler. We may be able to compare mounts (GPS that is).  Grin

I would be coming from north (Montreal), therefore would be in Bill's area before yours. When I do (later this summer), I will give you a holler.  Smiley
