Thanks Chris for the help with the photo post!  We all get by with a little help from our friends!   angel

As for a new handle, I'm up for that; but scorpio, kind of reminds me of an Al Pacino movie character.  As BJ says, "keep thinking", something will stick.

My recollection of the handle "rules" states that the recipient does not have veto powers.

Was that pic taken at the Alamo Springs Cafe last weekend?

If so... no wonder it took them so long to bring our food... they had to go out and catch the danged scorpions first!

I was seriously disappointed in that place... too loud... under staffed... and seriously under-managed... with an overtly self righteous attitude from the wait staff to boot!

AND... we called ahead... days in advance!  They KNEW we were coming... and dropped the ball anyway.

I will NEVER darken the doorway of that place again.

EVER!

Easily said for someone that didn't wait well over an hour for his meal to get delivered after waiting 45 minutes for the bitchy waitress to take our order.  The only turd that night was the "restaurant".

Really, I'm sorry the service was not up to folks expectations.  We did call a week ahead to set it up. We would be more than willing for others to take on the responsibilty for making the arrangements.....  Truly.. we have a YEARS  worth of work to do the GOTF.

I apologize for the problems with the restaurant as it was originally my idea to go there as part of this evening ride on Friday night.  I did not "pre-ride" the Alamo Cafe as I had planned to, but my plans were pretty much shot about a month ago.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  I think most would agree the ride to see the bats and the old San Antonio road, what I call a "roller coaster" road, was worth the trip, even with the problems at the eatery.

Yes?

Thanks again for leading the group out there, Mark.  Don't take the comments personally - they seem to be just "observations" to me, not any attack on the planners or ride leaders.

It is nothing personal Mark, you had a good experience and a good meal; some of us had a very poor experience and a mediocre meal.

Quote
We did call a week ahead to set it up.
That is my complaint, they were forewarned and still couldn't handle our group, plus, our waitress was a total bitch, finding me at the register when I went to pay for our drinks so we didn't miss the bats, after almost two hours at the restaurant, and had the nerve to ask if she should just throw the food away.  My first response was yes, throw it, but Misty wanted to take it to go.  I hated giving them my money and the bitch didn't get a penny of a tip.

Yes?
Yes, I'll ride the road and see the bats again but I'll go with us385south and get dinner elsewhere.

Fair enough.... I wish it had been a better experience.

But let me add this:
16 years ago, the Texas Valkyrie group.... this was way before the VRCC... was taking a ride through the hill country, and stopped at Willow City for BBQ..... this was advertised as the 2nd best BBQ in Texas...I was anxious to try it!!!!!

The problem was, the more I chewed it.. the bigger it got.    It was BAD....and this was agreed by the group.

I made the offer then to cook BBQ, and that is how the Gatherin' of the Fools started......I'm not saying that I cook the best BBQ, but .... it is a sight better than what we ate that day.

All of this to say....  If you have a better Idea, and a better plan for a get together.... PLEASE speak up, and volunteer... and put forth the effort to make it better....
If you want to do something to make things better.... I'll try to help ......
 !

Agreed Mark but please try to bear in mind these facts:

1) It is entirely possible to be irritated at the cafe WITHOUT assigning blame to the organizer.  I think you guys did a fantastic job.  The Cafe dropped the ball... and in light of the fact we had made arrangements in advance, I find that unacceptable.  Nearly 2 hours before my food arrived. And I am not talking about a waitress (AKA: tackle-box) that was a just bit snippy... she was openly and willfully belligerent.

2.) If you check the original thread carefully I believe I was the first one to mention the cafe out there so it was my own fault.... but that still does not excuse profoundly poor preparations of the cafe staff.  If you are gonna book groups... be prepared to handle groups.

3.) Personally, I think Saturday's meal was much better and would gladly help with those sorts of arrangements in the future.

None the less the rides were marvelous and the folks were fun.  I was glad I got to tag along!

Next year I will be glad to take a more active role, if we can set the date on our fair day, I'll have the Friday off to arrive early and help more.

We had a great time Friday evening.  The ride, the food, and the bats was a great experience.  I'd go again in a minute.  It's unfortunate yours was not the same, Chuck.

On the other hand, I tolerated the place with the breakfast tacos on Saturday and Sunday.  The food was ok, the service and process was confusing, chaotic, and slow.

I like hamburgers and BBQ, so I'm willing to wait but didn't wait too long as we were inside with a good waitress. Their hamburger for me was very good. Since my wife and I eat out a lot, we have come to expect differences in services, even at restuarants we frequent often. We allow for the number of patrons, the mood of the wait staff and even maybe a different cook. There are a lot of things that can come about to make a great restuarant bad for one night or you experience bad for a night out.
Glue, if you think you do the best BBQ in Texas, let me know if you need help, I very good at not paying attention to what I'm doing when cooking. I can really burn it for you.

My vote for BEST Que also. And let me apologize for my backyard blunder "Alamo Springs" . They just are not as good as they use to be.I don't know what their problem is but they seem to be heading downhill. Food is still great but the service has been getting worse in the last couple of months.

Too bad the experience wasn't good for all . We ain't there couple months back and was good burgers an decent service . I'm guessing they were " slammed" when y'all showed up. Red diamond sums it up well . I could easily agree they (staff ) have less than Texas hospitality !
