>House committee OKs 'Michelle Smith's Law'
By Chris Carl
The death of a Delaware City ambulance driver could result in a new law for Delaware.
A State House committee today (wed) approved the bill known as "Michelle Smith's Law."
Currently, a person who recklessly causes the death of an on-duty police officer, firefighter or corrections employee can be charged with first-degree murder.
This new measure adds paramedics, EMTs, fire marshals and fire police to the list.
It's named after the Delaware City woman who was killed while at the scene of a motorcycle accident last December on Route 13.
The bill will be considered by the full House. <

Everybody is "special" these days. More time if it is law enforcement. More if it is a "hate" crime, etc.
How about a crime is a crime, and is punished the same?
I thought we were a nation of laws, not of men, where all were treated the same?
Sorry, must have been drinking the Kool-Aid again!

We should enforce the laws we have, not make new laws. In most states, the time sentenced means very little.
