Looks like the pictures were taken by a professional photographer for resale. I think he had a hand in causing this accident.

Let me think about this-pose fer camera and get some decent pics/photos/roadrash OR ride the M/C and PAY attention to the job at hand AND avoid roadrash. Man that be a toughy. We KNOW what the rider did do. And i hope and pray that the M/C rider is O-K. I'm not completely heartless but THAT was avoidable. RIDE SAFE.

I feel sorry for the old guy and I hope that he didn't get hurt too badly,
But, it looks to me like the guy did 2 things wrong:
1: He was hamming it up for the camera instead of watching where he was going.
2: When he started dragging hard parts he straightened the bike up instead of continuing to lean.
He didn't even attempt to re-lean the bike, if you watch the sequence he continues to straighten up all the way into the car.

Seems lucky he flipped over landing on his a$$ rather than head first into the Vette or on pavement and snapping his neck. Vette guy is probably not very happy.

Beside having his head up his butt, waving at the camera, I do not see any sign of him getting on the brakes hard to try to stop, I think knowing I was going to hit, I would be locking it up to at least slow down. He was still doing a pretty good clip, noticed the impact even separated the front wheel from the hub.

Seeing the gear he was carrying, I assume he was out for a long ride and you can see by the look on his face he was enjoying himself. How quickly things can change!!!! My dad always said you can make some mistakes and maybe get away it, but there are some mistakes that will change your life forever. Apparently This guy had too much speed in relation to lean ability for the curve. So sorry to see that and the worse part is it was his own fault. Hope he came out without any major injuries.

I think definately target fixation .I wouldnt blame the photagrapher for any of it ,there are that many distractions on the road you cant afford to let your guard down for a second.

I think it was two cases of target fixation. He missed the point where he should have started his turn and entered the turn too fast because of watching the camera. Then, he fixated on the cage and was hosed. First time I rode that road I noticed a motorcycle skid mark leading into a barked tree. It was damn nearly like trying to drive by a blackhole, the tree drew my eyes which was enough to get me off the line I wanted in a fraction of a second. That guy focused and stayed focused on the Vette. I think that's why the bike stood up. Hope he's alright.

Being both a motorcycle and Corvette enthusiast this is painful to watch. Corvette owner is on the Corvette forum that I visit frequently. Bags went off in the Vette, motorcyclist walked away. Due to the high repair costs of C5 vettes's the car will probably be totaled even though repairable. http://youtu.be/-2R4D1vBOM8OOOpppppp's I see Cleaver already posted!

I just got a message from my friend. He has a dislocated wrist, but is otherwise OK. Didn't say anything about the condition of the Trumph.
I think he got lucky, could have been much worse.
I'm sure at one time or another most everyone has misjudged a curve or got distracted and wound-up in the other lane. I've done it before and was just lucky there wasn't a Corvette or anything else comming the other way.

When I passed one of those photographers, my backseater asked me if I was looking and waving, or what. My response: "I'm just riding." Forget about those guys, and ride the road.
That's not to say I am immune to distractions. No one is. Too bad your friend had to pay so painfully for his lapse. I'm surprised to hear you say he's experienced. From the way he shoots upright after scraping, I'd say he's not comfortable scraping pegs.
There's not much of a way to view that as any more than his fault, I'm just glad that when I've made mistakes, there's never been such a high penalty.

It was definatly my friend Ron. He's sent me a message telling me he was for the most part OK. Ron is no stranger to scrapping pegs, I think he started his banking late and hard and it supprised him. I won't second guess his failure to re-lean. He made a decision to hit the Corvette straight up.
If he had laid it down, he may have slammed into the side of the car abruptly. All I know is Ron survived a head-on collision with a Corvette and walked away. He's able to continue his vacation instead of laying in a hospital bed. Two hours ago he posted pictures of his condo in Panama City Buchanan, FL where he's staying tonight.

Is the general opinion that in frame nine or perhaps sooner he became fixated on the vette and had he even at that point with the bike dragging somewhat heavily could have looked through the turn and been ok? Btw I'm glad he's going to be ok, hope the vette owner gets a new one. This reminds me of my need to practice, where do you go to practice peg dragging? Hairy

quoted from "Paulrides" from Joe's first link. Not a big deal -- a guide can't ride your bike. Maybe some help if you had someone with a radio contact in front of you (say a CB) warning you of dangers ahead (cars coming, race riders coming, bad surface areas, loose gravel, etc.). Like any curvy roads with a couple big difference -- (The traffic with chance they are not staying in their lane, like ridng the yellow line on left hand curves. Crazy riders making a race track out of the place, even passing you on corners when you are not expecting them to be coming up on you at 50 or 60mph). "Just take it sensible (curves -- slow before entering, that can even mean braking, keep a view of 2 sec, preferabaly 3 seconds, ahead of you on blind curves, use the apex and go outside-inside-outside as a general rule, keep a little power on, learn to slow in a curve if you get in too fast). Better yet, find some less traveled road wih more sensible riders. There are plenty of good ones around here with as severe curves and even more severe without all the traffic and dangerous riders." some of the BEST advice i've seen.
