My bike rides nice either by myself or two up.  However, 2 up, the mufflers drag a little in corners.  They touch well before the pegs.  The shocks don't bottom out, and they're not bouncy.  I have a 98 standard with what appears to be the stock shocks, at 58,000 miles.  They are preset at 5. The mufflers are the 2BR 6 into 2, nothing wrong with how they're mounted.  I assume I should replace the shocks with progressives.  But is there anything else to check before I spend the $$ ?   Also, any recommendations for replacements, sort of a "good/better/best"  thing?

Thanks.

My TBR's would be the first thing to grind, especially two up. The pipes just jut out more than stock.  Both pipes had nice rashed edges.  I went to Works performance shocks and they no longer grounded out.  Really messed up my lean angles.

I went to stock pipes and got a little more lean again.

You could always check your shock bushing, both upper and lower, and  ensure that they haven't wallowed out.  There are aftermarket bushings that are much better than OEM.

I like the Works shocks, as they are built for your riding weight, and are rebuildable.

Ride safe.

I too have Works shocks. Good quality but pricey. Progressive 440HD in a 13 inch length would be best for 2 up riding.

if you can find shocks off of an instate you might give them a try ...             cooldude
they are bigger around (heavy duty) than the ones on your standard ...

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

From my limited experience.
Id say your shocks are shot.
My bike came with 440s and the HD springs 13 inch from a PO.
Took them off after a few weeks to stiff for me.
I git a set of regular OEM shocks and at #3 were too stiff at less they bottomed out.
I now have IS shocks on it set on 1.
I wish they had a .05 setting.

Thanks for the input.  Maybe I'll chase down some IS shocks, and see if I can tweak the muffler hangars up a little.
