Just took my new (to me) Valk for a little after dark spin and noticed a problem with the high beam. When I go from low to high beam sometimes it works fine and sometimes the light just goes off. I have tried this about 10 or 15 times, and the light went out about 3 or 4 times. So about 1 in 4 times going from low to high beam it goes dark, then when I go back to low beam all is good.

Any ideas what problem I should be looking for? The previous owner has installed some engine lights, maybe he screwed something up...?

Sounds like a loose or corroded connection somewhere in the high beam circuit or switch.  I haven't run into this with my Valk but did on a previous 81 Kaw 440.  Cleaned up the connections with small wire brush and applied dielecetric grease on 'em and they never flickered again.

Somebody here will chime in that's had the problem before.

To add on to DBP's post, tear your switchbox apart and clean the hi/lo beam switch.

Mine also has done this in the past, the first 2-3 years I owned her it would happen probably 1 in about 6-8 times then one night I just started flicking on and off the highbeam switch probably 35-40 times and luckily it hasn't done it lately...

That is so common it's almost normal.

tear the switch apart, clean the contacts, "tighten" them up a little, and lube with dielectric grease.

Thanks for the advice, I will try that. Once done I'll post if it solved the issue.
