I jumped a tall curb this morning and hit the oil filter. The front transmission cover cracked (thanks god -not the case) and she is leaking oil. This is the second time it happened to me. The first time I bought a new part (expensive!) and it took care of the leaking problem. Is it possible to find this trans cover used? It is a bad time to shell out over $200 for a new part. If you or someone you know has this part, I would appreciate any leads. I hope to be able to find one for under $100. Thank you in advance for helping me out.

I took the motor out and over to someone's house who said they could weld it back shut... they did it was ugly, but I didn't have to take the motor apart and get a new case... Would you have to take the motor out to change it out? A new one (and there'd be gaskets and who knows what else, since you'll have to mess with the waterpump...) would be about $200... -Mike

Back more years than I want to admit, I cracked the case on my "Elsinore" 250 in a motorcross race in Southwick, Ma. Being a kid and broke, I asked around about welding it and most told me it couldn't be done cause it was white metal. I kept asking till I found a welder who said he would do it. I ripped the engine down, took the case over to him, he welded it, put it back together and it worked great. Don't remember the numbers, but it was a lot cheaper than buying a new case.

A tig weld from the inside would discolor the chrome on the outside, but it wouldn't be all bumpy and discolored too. I think that I would try to find a used one and be more careful where I rode in the future...Jim

How do you jump a curb let alone twice! Well, both times it happened in the dark. Both times I thought I am on the driveway, but as you can see, I was mistaken. I promise, it will never happen again. I will take the cover off today and inspect for a possibility to weld it (aluminum alloy). If not, since I did not find a used one, will be buying a new cover. I found it for $180. Thank you all for chiming in trying to help.

Started to drive out on the road and realized it was a sidewalk. I stopped right on the edge of a 8" high curb. It was all I could due to back it up.

I have one!!! I replaced mine because of a few drops of oil and I was told that I needeed to change both the oil pump and the case!! I replaced both only to find out that that the couple of drops of oil just needed one little "O" ring replaced to stop it!! The oil pump is still attached to the case. I can send you either or both for $50.00 plus shipping cost. PM me at my personal e-mail address--justmeedp@cox.net, if you're interested. I can go to UPS tomorrow and ship same day, if the price is right for you. Will need you address etc. Earl Payne
