I thought that must be the case, but I didn't consider it's effect on the "Dial Back" timing light, but surely it would (never used one).
I was studying the trigger wheel/pickup arrangement and was scratching my head trying to figure out how the Honda gurus could tell when the engine was on the compression stroke. There's a missing tooth on the trigger wheel so with two pickups they can tell where #1 is, and with the offset between the pickups they get a pulse every 15 degrees (360/12/2). Since they can measure the RPM (time between pulses) they can figure the crank angle between the pulses with a clock. But how in the heck to know when the engines on compression stroke? Answer: They don't care! Fire every time the engines in the right point BTDC regardless of compression or exhaust.
Those guys are brilliant... I presume though that this is how most distributorless ignitions work.

You will soon see if the second firing pulse is wrong but mine worked fine .
Mind you I could select the number of cylinders the light was reading, along with Dwell and RPM
Unfortunately that light has decided to retire on me. Need a new one and they are not that easy to find.
Cheers Steve
