We took a five day weekend out to Chambersburg and back.  Spent the first and last day in significant rain, but none between.

Motomama and I got in about 19:30 yesterday.  It was a great time.  Big thanks to Joe and Highbinder for planning this most excellent gathering.

I was troubled by a couple of signs that I saw.  In both Ohio and Pennsylvania along the flyway we saw large signs declaring, "Targeted Enforcement Area."  Does that imply that there is less or no enforcement in the non-designated areas?  Some of you from Ohio and PA help me out with this.

Coming across a mountain on US 30 I was repeatedly greeted by signs along the way instructing, "Stay in Reduced Gear."  This caused me no small amount of consternation, not only that the Pennsylvania D.O.T. would promote increased risk of death or dismemberment, but also that I might be exposed to the possibility of a financial penalty.  Then I remembered that I was wearing my half shell and carrying the full faced strapped to my luggage.  Surely that would suffice as evidence that I was indeed in reduced gear.

Glad you all got home safely.  Glad you all made the ride.  It was good seeing everyone.

Seems to me the Pennsylvania DOT loves to put out 55 mph signs all over even where there no construction whatsoever, Oh don't get me started on that traffic light at highway 997.

"Targeted Enforcement Area" is shorthand for: "The feds gave us a dump truck full of money to pay overtime to patrol these "high crash" or "too many speeders" or "too many drunks" areas of the highway.... oh yeah, and to buy these signs."

Now if they only would pay for roaming bands of rifle-bearing hunters and huntresses to annihilate the forest rats... NOW THAT WOULD BE GOOD USE OF MY TAXES!

I noticed the same signs and thought they were stupid. Saw no more law enforcement vehicles there than any place else, in fact I think less.

There is or is to be a "targeted enforcement area" all the way east-west across Wichita, Ks. US400-US54. The rate of crashes is high hence the special area.

Oh yea, this means all fines are doubled.

I like it when you're cruising through rural PA and you see a sign beside a pasture on a quiet road that reads, "High Congestion Casualty Area."   I have yet to see one of those in a town. Out near Paux as you head back from checking out Phil there is a bar, and then as you head  into the next curve a sign reads, "High DUI Casualty Area,"  yup.

My brother made a comment on another sign we saw when we came into PA. It said "Its your life, Its our law, buckle up" he said jeez the penalty for not waring your seat belt in the state is really high....lol.
