I'm not sure what synthetic oil was in my 2000 standard when I bought it. However, when I changed the oil I used Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic. I immediately noticed that the normally loud tranny whine at 2500 rpms dramatically decreased. Have any of you noticed this? I'ts time to change the oil again. I'm very satisfied with the Rotella, but, if you know of anything better at keeping the tranny quiet please let me know. Thanks, giff

I use the Rotella T6 too, however it has been reported on this forum that Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel works better. I don't think you can totally illiminate the tranny noise except by not cruising at 50 mph in 5th gear.

I used 15-40 Shell Rotella and now have 15-50 Mobil 1 Synthetic. It's a LITTLE quieter with the Mobil 1. Those straight cut gears the tranny uses are not easy to eliminate noise from. RIDE SAFE.

I have noticed that the Cobra 6x6 is pretty good at eliminating trans noise!

Apparently being half deaf, that is deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other one.
I've used Mobil 1 in MGM from almost day 1. 1st oil change was at 1,200 miles, as I was headed for Alaska, got detoured in Southeastern Oregon and never made it that trip. 242K+ now and I still can't hear any tranny noise over what is normal. Don't know what kind of noise I will hear with the Trike kit on, but I know it will not worry me. When I hear rods rattling then I'll do some worrying.
Those straight cut gears are noisy, so quit worrying about every little quirk and enjoy the ride. You got to remember, you do not have a cage around you to muffle all those noises. Drive down the road with all your windows open and listen to the noises generated by these new cars.

I used the Shell Rotella for 1 cycle and then it was out of inventory, so I tired Mobil 1 Synthetic for Turbo-Dsl and the sound got even quieter and the trans shifted smoother than ever before. It was noteably surpising

your valkyrie loves fresh oil ... the heavier the oil ... the less noise it will make 20-50 syn. and the noise , whine you are hearing will go way down ... shift easier ...

I use Rotella too. 15 X 40 and don't have much noise at all. Well the noise I do have is normal.

I've been pondering tranny noises and i'm going off at a tangent. And at least i say i am. 1963 Chevrolet Impala 327 and a 4 speed. THAT particular combination had/has a pleasing tranny noise. And this ends fer the moment my little trip down old farts lane. RIDE SAFE.

IMO Mobil 1 15w50 does even a better job at minimizing tranny noise.
