Any tricks to changing the shifter shaft seal. A slight seep allows drippage onto the headers after sitting for a few weeks. Looks like a screw into the seal and a pair of vicegrips will do the removal or is it more to it than that?

thats all it takes, or a hooked ice pick.  However, when mine startes seeping I ordered the seal and while I waited for it to come it I removed the shifter, placed a socket the same size of the OD of the seal up againsted and gave it a tap or two with a mallet.  It seated a bit and stopped leaking for over a year.  When it started again I changed it and it was easy just like you said

Note exact shifter position before and after. Saves time and a re-do...

I took an old, very long screwdriver & ground it down to a very sharp tip. After taking off the shift arm it makes short work of the seal. Has to be long enough to be used like a lever against the header pipe after piercing the old seal.  cooldude

I used a sheet metal screw and my short vice grips. No problemo. RIDE SAFE.
