I attended the Edmond, OK Police Department "Survival Course" this past Saturday. Even though the course does not satisfy requirements for a motorcycle endorsement on your license, it was an excellent course. Everyone in attendance had a great time. I recommend it highly to anyone who wishes to improve his/her riding skills. As best I could determine, the oldest rider was 75 (Gold Wing) and the youngest was a kid (sportbike) in his late teens. By the way, I'm not in the picture.
Here's a quote from "The Oklahoman":
"The class was 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The course is given twice a year. The free course is generally full with a list of people waiting to develop safety skills and lessen the chance of serious injury in the event of a crash, Pratt said. The class was limited to 37 riders instead of the normal 50 students.
'The smaller class allowed for a lot of interaction and a lot of riding,' Pratt said. 'We had a good mix of people. There were more experienced officers and younger people.'
Oklahoma Highway Patrol motorcycle instructors helped Edmond officers. Edmond’s civilian motorcycle course started in 2003. The purpose is to teach riders how to survive in traffic. They are taught techniques and skills police officers use to remain safe while riding, Pratt said.
