Does anyone know where the electronic signal for the tach (Standard/Tourer) comes from. My tach is still not getting the right impulse and won't move until the engine is revved up. It starts when I ride the bike and then it will drop down. I was wondering if the signal comes from the "Pulse Generators" at the timing belts or even the ICM.  Any ideas or info will be appreciated.

Yea, I looked at that valve with a dentist's mirrow, it's clean and opens and closes just fine Joe. Also no connection to the tach. HeHe

Thanks all for the helpful information. I followed everyones leads to get a thorough check on everything. The battery is Ok, the alternator is putting out the proper voltage, all the wires are good and connected properly. The problem was the ICM, I installed the ICM from the Tourer and the Tach worked perfectly, all this without the tank installed, running only on fumes. Even at the lowest idle speed the Tach worked. Thank for your help.

Also , the tach gets it's ground from the rear light bulb on the standard and tourer. If there is an issue with the rear light, it could be effecting your tach.

What leads?

The battery, alt, etc...?

Or was there more?

I had an issue with mine awhile back.  It would go to 0, and I don't know how many times this happened.  I just happened to be looking a couple of times when it did.
I hadn't noticed it for awhile, maybe it's not doing it, or I just hadn't been looking, or the IS ECM fixed it, but I'd like to know what leads you were chasing down.

I cross posted this issue on the Tech Board. RP62, Valk1500 and others gave me some things to look at. A few of those things were to check the ground at the #1 & 2 coil, check the bullet connection in the headlight, make sure there were no broken or frayed wires. RP62 stated that the tach got it's signal directly from the ICM, which gave me the idea to install the ICM from the Tourer to see if maybe the ICM was not working properly, it wasn't. If your Tach was working sporadically, and you install an I/S ICM, that probably fixed your problem.
