To all. I am planning on riding Sunday to Luling Tx from the Houston area. I bought a book call "Wierd Texas" where it states: " With over 200 pumpjacks in the city, Luling has painted and decorated many of the pumpjacks with everything from football players to butterflies to watermelons slices. They make good photo stops."

Not that I need an excuse to ride but, if your interested in a day in the wind please feel free to join me. If I have some takers I'll set up at time and place to meet.

Pm me or respond here.

OBTW, could be talked into BBQ.

As a local... let me also attest.. that in my humble opinion the "Luling City Market," along with "Smitty's Barbecue" in Lockhart and the original location of "Coopers" in Llano, is one of the three jewels atop the triple crown of Texas barbecue.

Quite possibly the best barbecue in Texas... and I would not lie about barbecue.

I'd vote for Blacks BBQ in Lockhart, myself.

when and where, it might be doable

Alrighty... now it's a barbecue thread.  Woo-hoo!

I prefer Smitty's in Lockhart, which is the old Krueitz's location before old mister Krueitz died... and the family got to suing each other over his legacy.

The fire at Smitty's has been continuously burning for over 80 years... good pookie!

Well, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but City Market is closed on Sundays. Sad

But, Lulling and the surrounding areas are really nice and Lockhart (the BBQ Capital of Texas) is just 15 miles due north.  These Lockhart BBQ joints are supposed to be open on Sundays...Blacks, Chisholm Trail and Smitty's.  Kreuz's (pronounced "krite'zez") is closed Sundays.

Clearly the intent was to ride with BBQ secondary. So if you're interested please let me know.

I've been to the City Market with some of the VRCC riders back in 2010.

sounds very doable.  Should you need it, my cell is 713-201-2366.

9 am is wonderful, gives me time to get dogs out, in, fed, and settled for the day.

My vote for Texas BBQ is HotGlue's @ # 1, with Black's in Lockhart a close second..   If y`all wanna meet up in Lockhart, maybe a few of us CenTex guys could meet with you.. It's right up the road from Luling, & would give U a break from I-10.

Hey, I'm happy with a jalapeno corn dog eaten in the parking lot of a truck stop... with reefer rigs idling in the background.

Luling is just short of a brake replacement test ride for me... things are looking good for Sunday.

When are you guys planning on hitting Luling?

Land Elephant... you're running this show...

I guess I am. Just thought I'd toss out the idea of going for a ride. I'm known for just rolling out and riding. When I talked with Hayhauler about south Texas VRCC er riding well that started the post.

Wasn't planning much if any of I-10 and planning to look at a map and pick some roads to Luling.

But I can hit other places and meet up with other riders and as I said if you want BBQ then pick the place and we can eat, shoot some crap, maybe find a couple of the pumpjacks and take pictures and build a stronger VRCC group. So stay tune, shoot a suggestion and I'll set something up with a loose schedule.

Stay tune.

The rough plan.  Meeting Lyn-del at 9:00 am at Hwy 288 and 6.  plan is to head out on 6 to 59 to Rosenburg and then follow some roads north of HWY 10 and come down from the north.

Franco6, can you meet at the Red Lobster just south of Hwy 59 and 6?

Lets meet at the Luling BBQ on 709 E. Davis St, Luling, Tx between 12:30 and 1:00 pm.  Be patient for us because I have a tendancy to wander but that should be a decent time to hook up, eat, kick tires, shoot the crap, and then each group can head out back home. Maybe even take some pictures of decorated pumpjacks.

I'll have two routes for returning depending on people's schedule.  One south of I-10 and one the incorporates I-10.

Thanks for the interest all. The weather looks good and it will be nice to meet new VRCCers.  be prepared to see more of these post.  I try to ride as much as possible and there will alway be an open invatation.

Not really much of a ride from San Marcos but I am planning on riding out just to "meet, greet 'n eat."

Maybe I'll be able to talk the wife into riding along.

Wish I could ride and meet up with y'all! Sad

I'll be working in Llano Sunday (Jeep commercial), so maybe I'll get some BBQ at Cooper's or Inman's while I'm there.

I am so confused...

I'll try to catch you all somewhere...BBQ, Bucees no matter to me.  I have to leave for Washington D.C. on Tuesday for three weeks (work related) so I'll be going thru Valkyrie withdrawal.  I need to get my fix in before then for riding and TX BBQ!!!

Gotcha... glad I'm mot losing my mind.  As I live practically in Martindale... coming to NB first is a long dog-leg for me.  I'm gonna head straight to Luling and meet there with the bunch so don't wait on me...

Phooey!  I'm not going after all, just got hit by the first round of the stomach virus a friend had earlier this week.  So, instead of a lovely day on the bike, it looks like a day in the necessary room instead.

y'all have a good ride!  Maybe I'll make the next one.

Yes just south of 59 on the right for us coming up from Alvin.

I'm not the most knowledgable of the area yet, but that's what I saw on map.

I'll look at the board right before I head out on Sunday.

I'm so glad it turned out not to be a virus, just a one time thing, so I was able to make the ride this morning.  361 miles from start to finish is a great way to spend a beautiful day.  Good company and BBQ only made it better!
