As i understand it it has a little quicker ignition curve. Tourers and standard can use a 6 degree wheel and the I/S usually goes with the 4 degree wheel. And to complete the package they usually install the I/S carb springs. I KNOW if my info is incorrect someone will correct it. RIDE SAFE.

   You can retain the stock wheel i believe and when you install the I/S icm you juat slightly alter the ignition curve with the I/S icm. I DO NOT know the exact figures on the ignition curve but i'll bet it's in the 2 degree realm.  I have the stock wheel on my I/S MAYBE you want to change to an I/S wheel IF they are indeed different. Look up both wheels and see if they have different part #s. I know there has been a few write ups on this since i've been here. Hope i've been some help to you. RIDE SAFE.

What wheel are you talking about....the T/W? Keep the stock one if you like, however I installed a 4 deg. one to work with the I/S ICM on my Tourer. That setup has been on there for at least seven yrs., probably longer, along with the I/S carb springs. Works good together.

I believe(without looking it up) the 2 deg. advance with the I/S ICM kicks out around 4500 rpm which is an area I have no need of so it's not an issue for me.

What we call the trigger wheel Honda at H D L calls  a Rotor Pulser. And from 97 to  99 at least those years i've listed the part # on the rotor pulser A K A trigger wheel are all the same-Honda part # 30291-MN5-000. They are found with the timing cover-belts listing and are #15 in the parts fiche. Looks to me like the trigger wheels-stock anyway-are identical-whether for an I/S a tourer or a standard. Good luck with the purchase, that's how I got mine a few months ago.  I had to ask the seller if it was off a IS, I don't think he knew they were different.

There was a noticible difference in performance, not so much in fuel milage (it stayed the same).

As far as the Trigger Wheel I asked about that on this thread below in the "Tech board".     (if I was tech savy I'd put a link here but I'm evidently not that smart with computers)

There is some good information here about the trigger wheels, even how much to file the key down to gain advances.

My next modification effort will be the IS carb springs, been hearing good things about that. And it seems quite easy (and cheap).
