Hello fellow VRCC members,
As I promised, I will lead an unorthodox ride through metro Detroit and back to our house on Sunday, June 28th.
We will gather and leave from the Big Boy restuarant and Mobile Gas station at Vernier and Mack in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI at 10:00 PM. I would suggest that those who are not familiar with the Grosse Pointes come early to enjoy the ride along Jefferson/Lakeshore Drive as it is quite picturesque in the morning light and the mansions along the drive are awesome to behold.
The ride should not take us more than two hours from start to finish. But be aware that this is an urban ride and you will need to do your best to avoid broken pavement and the ocassional pothole. Outer Drive changes names and directions in a haphazard way, so be prepared for sudden changes in my navigation. The ride will culminate in River Rouge at the Detroit river. We will then follow Outer Drive back into Dearborn Heights and the back to our house. We should arrive back at our house at 12:45 - 1:00 PM. At this time we will commence to have our chapter picnic.
http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=6585For those that are not going on the ride, but are attending the chapter picnic, our address is: 20617 Fairview, Dearborn Heights, MI 48127.
We are one block north of Ann Arbor Trail, between Outer Drive and Evergreen.
We are trying to accomodate the varied individual preferences in our selection of sausages and burgers. We can provide hot dogs, brats, kielbasa, italian sausages an burgers. But please RSVP ASAP (before 6/23) and as to your choice of meat. We would like a somewhat accurate count as we may get a "club discount" through a local supplier. You may as so bring a dish to pass so that there is more variety.
We have a tent, tables, grilles, and coolers, but if you could bring some folding chairs (bag chairs, camp stools, milk crates, etc.) it could make things easier.
I hope the weather co-operates and we can make this a memorable ride/picnic.
As always feel free to call me at: 313 204-3826
