Misty took this picture of Dave and Janet while on the RFK on Sunday.  The mirror may be a common shot for backseat drivers but I could never get Mary to take pics; she was always afraid of dropping the camera.

We took over 150 pics and almost killed my batteries.

Very cool, indeed.  But what's that wing doing up there with all the valks?   Wink

No biggie.  Someone decided to take the family car instead of the sports car. Grin

Actually, I believe that was a VTX in front of Dave and a Hardley in front of that.  I also believe, other than the sidecars, I was the first Valk in the procession.

Does that make me special?

We bought a "ride camera", one that's cheaper, but competent.  That way, if it gets dropped, it isn't that big of a problem.  The nicer camera gets stashed in the trunk for the posed shots.
Downside:  the cost in memory cards and batteries may quickly outpace the cost of the camera.
Upside:  Some really cool shots from the back of a moving motorcycle.

PS:  Trust your wrist strap.  It's your friend.

That is our ride camera.  I wanted an inexpensive camera for some business travelling I had to do and it also worked out for riding.  Being a Canon fan I settled on an A590 IS.  It is an amazing little camera that is cheap enough that I wouldn't freak if it was dropped off the bike.  Misty had the strap twisted all the way up until it was tight around her wrist; just to be safe.

It has a 4 GB memory card so I can take quite a few pics and videos; but it munches up batteries.  I bought quality rechargeable batteries but they don't last long; I keep 2 in it and 4 spares handy so I don't short myself.

Try using the lithium disposables.  More expensive than regular disposables, but last a LOT longer.  One of our cameras (the supposed nice one) started chewing through the rechargables about a year ago.  It got to the point that they would only last three or four shots.  That's with new batteries, fully charged.  Lithiums lasted through a hundred or two hundred pictures on my recent Florida trip.  Still not good, but the camera is useable again.
