made the Neighbors Column.
An 86 year old WWII D Day vet was on the way to the Ft. Wayne Vets Hospital . He was in the back seat and his wife was driving. She was stopped by a Ft. Wayne LEO for doing 50 in a 35mph zone.
When the LEO found out where they were headed, he talked briefly to the veteran and then told the vet's wife that he didn't write tickets against veterans. But that's not the Rest of the Story as Paul Harvey used to say.
He asked the wife if she could follow him closely. He then proceeded to the Vets Hospital with lights and sirens with the vet's wife driving close behind.
It didn't make the front page since there was no emergency and probably the LEO would've gotten his arse chewed but the Vet's son thanked him through the Neighbors column.
