I was thinking of switching to amsoil, until I talked to a friend who is a motorcycle mechanic. He said not to switch that they had been having problems with the starter clutches on 1500 and 1800 Goldwings after switching to Amsoil. Said the starter didn't want to engage and Honda said it was due to the fact that Amsoil was to slick. Has anyone had or heard of this problem????? ???

Too slick? Isn't that the idea of oil? The honda dealer probably justed wanted to sell their honda oil. I know a lot of wingers and have never heard of that condition. Did you check the wing blog?

I have used Amsoil exclusively for 71K miles. I change the oil every 5K miles with a new Amsoil filter and have never had any problem of any kind.

im a user of Amsoil in most of my rides.
I think the guy just wanted you to buy their $25 a quart Honda oil.

Ive used alot of different oils in the Valk.
4 gallons before it even left my garage during the rebuild.
Gas in oil due to bad carbs etc etc.

Currently has Wally World 20w-50 dino and that stuff is good enough for now.

Yes, not that Amsoil is too slick, but a full synthetic oil is not recommended in the Goldwing due to it being too slick and causing the clutch to slip. Yeah, I know, this is not a Goldwing site.  Smiley

Amsoil makes a motorcycle oil without friction modifiers. It's an excellent oil for wet clutches. For cost reasons, I use Mobil 1 without the modifiers.
