On the way to work this  morning I was sitting at a light and up came a Harley dresser on my left. When I was taking off I heard his revs come up. Now I was not trying to race but he started it. Rolled the throttle full when I hit second he was gone. HMMM. Don't these guys ever learn.
I got this guys that I used to work with that got a Harley about two years ago. Every time I see him he says "when you going to get a real bike" I just tell him I have a real bike. I'm not a lemming. He also calls my bike a rice burner,Jap crap that same old crap. I have challanged him several time. Seams he does not have to balls to put up of shut up. His father in law still works here (Rides a Sportster) told me that John's bike is fast. Supposedly has installed bigger cylinders and such. I said "so its fast for a Harley huh". Next time I see him I going to tell him to PUT UP or SHUT UP.....

Had a staunch Harley guy asked me the other day why I did not get a Harley.  I told him I didn't have any interest in a little 2 cylinder bike.  He didn't know what to say!!!

On 64 near the VA/WV line, I passed a couple of Harleys on one of those mile long
uphills... no attitude, just went past them, soon there were other vehicles between us.

Not long after that, one of the Harleys passed me back on one of those mile long
downhills...  Smiley

Attitude  Grin

I was glad you passed those Harleys on the way back to ground zero from Gettysburg... man
were they loud... I heard the lead one say something about "it's those Valkyries" when we came to
a red light right after we passed them... I think all the bikers (and sundry people who notice bikes)
knew that Valkyries had infected the place that weekend...

when my motor was stock(sorta just exhaust and carb balance and rejetting) I only had 1 hd giv eme a hard time. it was a zipper 107 ho kit. I would say zipper makes the best products for hd for performance/street racing out of all of them. We left the light and he got the jump on me, but i ran him down by 3rd gear and slowed for the next light. he smiled. my wife smiled back, he quit smiling...

On the way back from the B/G ride we pulled up to a toll booth with about 2 dozen bikers with some 'patch' on their back. Of coarse they were loud coming out from the booth and we decided to catch them all and smoke'm. They did have a chase truck and trailer in tow.  Shocked He hauled ass but they got a good lead on us and never past them. We pulled off to get gas a few exits up and as we were ready to leave they rolled by us.

I've smoked a few HD's with the Valk but not lately.  They might be able to beat me since the sidecar slows things considerably.

Quite a long time ago, I was riding my Matchless 500 Thumper on a lightly traveled road ( hell, they all were lightly traveled back then). A guy pulled up alongside of me with a 74 Indian side valve twin., nice bike, nice guy.

We tried the side by side thing and I beat him : three tries. Of course I had foot shift and hand clutch and he had hand shift on the tank and foot clutch.  Anyway, he said "I've got another bike at home, lets try with that one."  He rolled out a 80 cubic inch Harley (yeah, they made them back then) and we tried again.  I got the jump on him but he beat me but not by much.  80 inches vs 30 inches.
Today, I guess if you like nostalgia, and are willing to pay for it, go for it!   I'll stick with technology.  cooldude

Golly, in the past two weekends I've stopped to help two broke down Harley riders.  In the first event, my wife and I were going golfing when we came upon some bikers staning on the side of the highway scratching their dew rags looking at a Harley that had it's turning gears dropped all over the shoulder and then last weekend I was riding the Valk up to our cabin in Upper Michigan when I came upon another guy and his girl pushing has anniversary Ultra Classic into a gas station.  As for me, I'll keep riding my Valk or my Wing their both great rides.

Similar thing happened to us out of Pennsylvania.  We waved good-bye to a group of riders as we were sitting at the fuel station.  We finished our business at the station and headed north, rode some awesome state roads, and finally rolled up onto the flyway.  We stopped at the last service center before we were to exit the turnpike, got ourselves a bite to eat, and then just when we were about to leave in walks this same group that had left Chambersburg before us.  Weren't we surprised?

Some folks were just born to be long distance riders and some do the best they can.   Wink

Hope you all had a good ride the rest of the way in.   Smiley

I think we are just blessed Grin
I ride with a group and have the only Valk cooldude
I hear comments all the time about when you passed me back there that was all I had. The best one I get all the time is.
We have a hill in the Phoenix area, Yarnell hill.
They always complain about cars getting on their butts, going up or down!!!!
I cannot relate to ANY CAR doing that to me. I am the crotch rocket on their butt, waiting for the time I can pass.

But I am happy the Valk, meets my riding expiations and will never see a HD in The Valk House Smiley
I am just thankfull I have been able to own 2 of these things, in the last 2 1/2 years.
I was off the bikes, for 25 years. Kids.... But now the wife loves the back of both, the Black Tourer we had, and now the blue and silver Interstate we have put about 14000 miles on this past year....

I smoked a harley rocker three times yesterday on the way to a local bike night.

He asked me what kind of car motor was in my bike, and I told him that it was just an old Valkyrie.

Later last night he asked to see where I hid the the Nox bottle.

He went on to tell everyone in earshot that since he had the "stage III" kit installed, not even crotchrockets would challenge him.

A couple of my longtime riding buds said that he should take his bike out behind the industrial park and race me. He declined and left.

My parents raised me to always buy quality over image.  Don’t buy a Lincoln, ‘cause they’re just imitating a Cadillac, that sort of thing.  My parents also taught me that you get what you pay for.

People buy harley’s because the don’t want to be hassled at the local bar.  They don’t want to be the one that takes the “road less traveled”.  These are the people that picked on the new kid on the block but never ventured out of the small town they grew up in to see that they’re the weak one.

There’s nothing wrong with Harleys, I just wouldn’t buy one ‘cause they’re not comfortable, they’re loud, and they come with a bull crap attitude that you’re not an American if you don’t ride one.

I’ve never raced a harley, but I do like racing those little cars kids soup up and drive like idiots in that movie “the fast and furious”….

...well some HD guys are great just like some Honda guys are asses...its always fun to smoke someone regardless of what it is...my boy got the jump on a sick sounding 600r and smoked him through 4 gears before my boy backed off(over 100mph)..(the sport bike dude thought he could show off and pull a wheelie then it was too late for him the Valk was gone)...and you will always come across dimwits that think HD's are the only mc made...(I think they need to justify the cost to their ladies) or are afraid to find out what performance really is...the ones that really get me are the one that talk and talk then when you see what their riding its like a stock sporster or an old beat up super guide that won't start and barely makes it down the road...

Hey, I "resemble" those remarks...seriously, I gotta say I love my 110 Screaming Eagle...it moves (no comparison to a stock Harley) has heated seats, grips and a killer stereo, not to mention self cancelling turn signals  Cheesy...what's not to like...(I know, it's a Harley)...however, I also gotta say that the best thing about my Harley is the BLOWN BEAZTMONSTER of a Valk parked beside it...when I want a pure adrenaline rush I back that out of the garage and go Harley hunting...love turning them into "mirror specks". Sooner or later, a valk is going to pull up beside me while I am on the Harley, but don't worry, I know better than to roll on the throttle.

I think Harley Davidson makes some very nice looking bikes as of late.  The Rocker, IMO, is a lot nicer that the Fury.  I also really like the Fat Bob and there's a new springer model that's nice too.  They are just too small in overall size for a tall rider.  Also, H-D doesn't care to build powerful stock bikes or else they would have kept up in the displacement wars of a few years back.  Their riders think they're sitting on gobs of power because they just don't know any better.  I would love for Honda, or even Yamaha, to come out with stock bikes that are as good looking as the H-Ds.  The Roadliner is a really the only nice bike with lots of cc's.  The VTX is a load of nothing but boring.

Ya'll be carefull just assuming you'll smoke ANY HD on the road.  I have told this story several times.  I have a buddy that lives in Racine Wisconsin that has a Low Rider Sport that has a 124" S&S motor, that I have seent he Dyno slip at 157 HP, and I have seen his sub 11 second QT drag slips, on STOCK tires.  I have ridden that bike, and had it crawl the front wheel off the ground on me in a 3rd gear roll on.  I have had him SMOKE me many, many times from both standing and rolling races.  I have not seen a Valk, blown or not, that his HD won't take.

Now... let us race across country, or even in the twisties... and I'll eat him up, and he KNOWS that.  But in a straight line... I can't TOUCH him.

Now... I have $9200 in my Valk.  Maybe $10K with add ons.  He's got $30K in WORK on that one.  But that's not necessarily part of the bet when you're racing pinks.  Just beware that you better KNOW who you're challenging if you pull the... "Let's race for pinks" card.

I agree with Jabba, don't just jump off in a bunch of HD's wanting to race.....  While 98% of them are stock or have the ellusive "stage 3" kit that can't hold a CANDLE to our Fat Girls, guys like Jabba's buddy and our very own Hot Glue have HD's that will spank most any bike, with the exception of some crotch rockets.

I'm not the only one that knows about Hot Glue's ole HD, others on this board can attest to how it runs.

You know, as much as you guys hate Harleys, for whatever reason, too loud, too slow, too leaky, too unreliable, why do some of you try and fit in with them?  Why do you go to Harley nights at bars, try to fit in, and then get your feeling hurt when they don't warm up to you?  Why do add Harley fairings and bags to your bikes to make them look like a Harley?  Why don't you use Gold Wing parts or Yamaha parts?  Why do you guys get snubbed by Harley guys and then go out and paint your bikes red white and blue or get American flags tattooed on your arms?  It doesn't make you fit in better.

Why don't you have your own metric nights at bars or get the japanese flag tattooed on your arm?

MC, I don't bash, don't try to fit in at bike nights, don't race on the street, too old for that stuff.  I do Dyno drags, though, usually at ralleys, dealers, etc.  I freely admit that when the Fat Lady doesn't win, I still enjoy the competion.  Last one I entered, two bikes beat my HP output, a stock Rocket three, 118 HP, and a new ME109 zuki, 107 HP.
However, the three Screamin eagle 3 HDs attending did not!  Sorrrry  Evil Hoser
PS the Fatlady is bone stock.

OK let me set things straight here. I was not looking for a race the other morning. When I heard his pipes come up I punched it and beat the pork out him. Now that being said. I know my Valk will not beat every Harley out there. Never said it would. BUT it will beat most all stock and some screaming chickens, most Valkyries will.

My good buddy Steve has a very nice 93 Springer. Beautiful bike, great paint job. HE has probable 25 grand in this bike. He makes around 100 HP. Now I have never really tried to race him but I know he can beat me. First of all Steve weighs around 150 pounds (half of what I do) and his bike is a lot lighter than mine. But he can never ride this bike farther than 100 miles before he HAS to get off of it.

Jabba you mentioned your buddies Low Rider. Sure if I put that kind on money in my Valk I could beat him too. But I don't want or could afford too. Now you want to talk about a Valkyrie that could beat your buddies Low Rider. talk to Dogg. He is pushing 258 HP with a blower. Nuff said. Oh and I would never race for Pinks. To many things can go wrong. Miss a gear and your bikes gone.

Ok to close this thing out. I don't go looking for Harley's to race but I wont back down from one. I am tired of the attitude that some Harley riders have and I am so sick of the Jap crap, rice burner crap. It is so old. They think that their  bikes are the greatest things on two wheels. Sometimes these guys need to be knocked down a peg of two.

Oh and MCRIDER. If you don't like to hear Harley's being bashed then why do you come in here than?  Oh and I for one do not want to 'fit in" with them. I could care less. I ride what I ride because it is the best bike for me..PERIOD. Not to mention the best Cruiser ever built. Can I get an Amen..............

"as much as you guys hate Harleys"
Who says we are trying to fit in? Bikers are bikers. Harley night at bars? Never heard of any in all the States I've partied in.

"Why do you go to Harley nights at bars, try to fit in, and then get your feeling hurt when they don't warm up to you?"
I don't care if they like me or not. I'm sure there are Valkers that dislike me also. I go to have fun, kick some tires, and meet new people. I go for the food and whiskey, not to make people like me.

"Why do add Harley fairings and bags to your bikes to make them look like a Harley?  Why don't you use Gold Wing parts or Yamaha parts?"
Maybe cause they fit better then others and are easily acessable and priced nice. Have you priced Honda bags?  ??? Sure we use GW parts, like the alternator.  Cheesy I have HD acc on my scoot.

"Why do you guys get snubbed by Harley guys and then go out and paint your bikes red white and blue or get American flags tattooed on your arms?  It doesn't make you fit in better."

I dont paint mine cause of them. I painted mine cause it was cheaper then replacing the effected parts. Flag tatts... whats wrong with being partiotic? Tatts and piercings are cool anyway!  Cheesy Hope to be sleeved by the time I hit 40.

"Why don't you have your own metric nights at bars or get the japanese flag tattooed on your arm?"
I don't own a bar and see all sorts of bikes at 'bike night'. Jap flag...  Undecided

I ride with 99% all HD's and have partied it up with alot of them including many felons and 1%ers. They never cared what I rode as I did they.  Evil

Now... I have $9200 in my Valk.  Maybe $10K with add ons.  He's got $30K in WORK on that one.  But that's not necessarily part of the bet when you're racing pinks.  Just beware that you better KNOW who you're challenging if you pull the... "Let's race for pinks" card.

Jabba

Not sure it that counts since its not a stock engine. At least it would be stock against stock.

on the money Black Dog.lol.

MCRider, do you own a valk? Havent you NOTICED the power difference between the f-6 and a big twin? I love all bikes, still thinking of an electraglide classic but, the valk is just so much more motorcycle than the HD. Just because Honda didnt commercialize the name, bring it in to the mantle, doesnt mean it isnt a comparable, dependable, beautiful fat bike that will outlast most other bikes with the proper maitainence. I know guys with heritage's with over 100k on them, still riding, still running. Excellent maint. schedule.
BUT, also alot of other work needed to be done as well. No worries for them. It's what they CHOOSE to ride. And everywhere I go, I STILL hear people talk smack oabout my bike, even tho I can chew em up and spit them out...doesnt matter. "Yeah, its cool for a jap bike...or for a metric...I hear those more than anything.

oh Jabba, I agree with you. I just found out a few days ago, a friend here just rolled his new "old" bike out of his shop. Its an old titan, stretched, chopped, 240 tire...but he has that new 131 cu in. fuel injected s&s motor on it. OMFG is it fast. scary. I think he said he is making around the 150-160hp range also. but the bike is just under 500 lbs. too fast. Id worry abou thim I think.Cheesy

IMHO we are talking about two things here, Mechanicals and attitude.

I give full credit to anyone that does his own work on his bike to increase power.  I give less credit to someone who pays good money to buy a bike then pays more money to the same company to increase the power that should've been there in the first place.

The Valk represents almost new technology.  The HD represents nostalgia, period.  To each his own.

With the mechanicals out of the way, I think that it's fair to say that motorcycles are, well, motorcycles.

Attitude... I give full credit to the riders that have the attitude that "It don't matter what you ride, just that you ride"  I give less credit to riders that have bias toward or against other riders because of what they ride...........  Unfortunately, that includes me.  For years I have heard remarks about the bikes that I ride: Jap Crap, Rice Burners, Unpatriotic, etc, so much in fact, that I've developed a bias against HD riders and judged them before the facts are in, and that's my problem.

I give no credit to the riders that have been responsible for my bias.  Most are probably newcomers who have been brainwashed and MUST follow the mystique of the HD Bad Boy image.

Hey Franco. The V-Rod engine is built by Porshe. I like the V-Rod. Nice bike. But ask any 'Diehard" Harley guy and they will tell you it's not a "real Harley".....

Mad6gun, I get that all the time about riding a rice burner, or a Jap bike, etc. I don't even give it a second thought. I just let em know how much my flat six cost and ask the cost on theirs. It usually shuts em up pretty fast. A couple times I asked some HOG riders about riding with them or where they were headed and if I could join em. Got the very cold shoulder. Usually, though, when I've come up to one or two crusing through town we have no problem riding together. I even pulled up beside a HD rider the other day at PC Beach and we rode side by side for a couple miles. I asked the shortcut to 98 and he obliged.
