While heading home from Ocala today, the bike started slowing down like it was starving for fuel, it eventually slowed to the point of stopping and made sounds like it may have been overheating, valves rattling and ignition knock but no warning light. Bike was down until I could get a trailer come to pick it up. Once I got it home the bike started right up and sounds normal......any ideas before I start looking?

Wayne, that's why I have both an oil pressure gauge and a temp gauge. Most temp idiot lights don't come on until it's too late. Sounds like it had started to overheat, maybe a stuck t'stat or bad water pump. Keep us posted on what you find.

Had the tank off lately?
Sounds like a bad vent line or petcock.

I think you had it right fuel starvation, check the petcock and vacuum line to the petcock, FIRST.

Wayne I would take the tank off and put it on a work bench. Put some fuel in and with the petcock in the off position there should be no fuel flow even when pulling a slight vacuum. The vacuum should hold once you pull it down. If it does not that will tell you that the vacuum side of the petcock has a pinhole. My last one did and the one before that also. You should be able to turn the fuel selector to on or reserve with vacuum applied and fuel should flow, but stop once vacuum is removed. I was a holdout on changing to the Pingle, but after the last episode I went ahead and changed to the Pingle. Model No. I installed was the 6311CH. This gets rid of the need for a vacuum as it is a manual model. The kit to repair the OEM if you want to go that way is around $27. The Pingle is around $100 now. If you do take it off and check it let us know what you find. The OEM has a vacuum side and a fuel side so either one can cause a problem. What the vacuum does is shut down fuel flow when the engine stops, and while running makes the fuel selector operational. Hey and thanks to Daniel Meyer for reading and posting on the new board, I think he is right, it either is a petcock or vent line problem.

Fuel Valve was changed to manual long ago, I'm thinking maybe a vacuum problem or maybe the new fuel line that was installed about a month ago...........I'll let you know.

O.K. on the manual valve. I think it was John that said that the line had to be straight with no kinks, so maybe the one you put on is a tad too long and has either a kink or a dip in it and if your fuel was low gravity couldn't overcome it.

Could be ignition failure, check for spark at the plug.

Question:
Have you replaced the anti-freeze lately?
If so, did ya burp the system?
If not, burp it and you will be good to go.
Let us know the outcome.

Situation has been resolved, It was a "Wayne" imposed problem. The fuel line I installed about a month ago was a little longer than the original and apparently got crimped when I reinstalled the tank. Removed it today and cut it to the right length took the bike out for about twenty miles at 75-80 MPH with no problem. (John is correct, it does have to be straight.) Don't know why it took a month to start causing trouble. I'm thinking weather had a lot to do with it.
Thanks for all the feedback...........I appreciate the assistance.

OK Wayne, fire the mechanic. I've seen more bikes with that problem after replacing the OEM petcock with a different type. Also seems to happen when they install a quick disconnect, the rider is quick to blame the QD and say they solved the problem by discarding it. In a manner of speaking....yes, they did. Because by discarding it they got rid of the extra length in the fuel delivery line. Here's a thought re. why it took so long to show up....engine heat. Causes the lines to get a little more flexible than when first installed, allowing it to sag more and more although very slight to the eye sometimes. I'd watch it closely for a time just to make sure, but if you now have it running "downhill" from the petcock you shouldn't have any more trouble. So....Old Guys strike again: Ta...daa! Or is it: Da...taa! Just glad you got it fixed there bud. When are you going to join us again for a meet, greet & eat ride?

Can't fire the Mechanic John, as bad as he is he's still the only one I can afford. I'm going to hook up on one of these rides before too long, just got too many irons in the fire right now. I was thinking about the "Breakfast Club" just the other day,,,,,,,,been a long time since we met at Luigi's. Terry your post on the length of the fuel line was right on

Yeah, another vote for Luigi's also. Strange...I was also thinking about the old "Breakfast Club" and wondered why we quit. Guess I could have taken the initiative and called it together, but like Wayne...too many irons in the fire the last couple years. Let's think about reinstating it, there's enough old retired farts down here to keep it going.

Luigi's sounds good, it has been a while since we were there. I think the last Time Charlie the Sculpter was there , also Sealskinner. Been too long.

don't give me too much credit. I also read this one regularly, more so than folks that know a lot more like John, TJ,JeffK,Grumpy,Silverfox etc. etc. If I see someone with trouble that I have had or read something about I pass information along. But thanks. I ate at Luigi's once with the gang, was on the way to Tampa to see the folks and stopped in for breakfast. Was it Tom that has some long standing order there like not so well cooked eggs? Maybe it was Charlie...........

Been to Luigi's twice for breakfast, both times invited by Tom It seemed very small if I remember correctly? Could they house a Valkyrie turnout?
