I know the Interstate and Standard are different ...Can you put Interstate rear pads on a Standard with the added metal piece or does it need to come off ? Are they the same other than that thin piece of metal ? What the deal with the metal piece ? Why does the Interstate use it and the Standard does'nt ?

Joe: If I buy pads without the metal/plastic pads, I just transfer them from the old pads to the new ones. It doesn't matter. The plastic pad is for anti rattle/squeel purposes. I believe it needs to be there.

Thanks for the response Sandy...But on the Standard / Tourer it does not have that piece. You would think with the added part that the Interstate pads would cost more...Nope they are cheaper at the local dealer here. Do I need to pull it off ( the thin metal piece ) or leave it on to put Interstate pads on a Standard ? Its the same other than that piece of metal ...Correct ?

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

My 98 Tourer has the metal pc on the pads with the paper thing tween it and the pads. When I change mine I just transfer it over to the new ones. My new pads never came with the metal. Try it without if you want and see how it is. That thin of a pc might not make a diff.

I was informed that that "cover" is an insulator to help with heat buildup.  It will make no difference with regard to braking or pad life.
