If you have multiple bikes and have replaced the stock petcock on any one of them, then choose option 1 or 2.
This is just data gathering.
Please don't debate or opine on the merits of the stock petcock one way or the other.

I'm actually in between two of the answers - kind of. I am still using the OEM, but only because I haven't purchased a fuel filter to install with the Golan I have setting in my tool box.

A fourth possible response might be; Use OEM petcock and have replaced the cover set. Something I had to do.

I agree with Plunker and Farther. Every time I pull the tank (usually to change the air filter) I test the petcock. If fuel flows in any of the three positions, I replace the cover set. It's no big deal as I always keep a spare on hand, and it only takes a few minutes to to replace. You don't even have to remove it from the tank.
The Honda petcock is really typical of those used on lots of older carbureted bikes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was interechangeable with some. The problem with the Valk is the downdraft carbs, because if they leak, fuel can fill a cylinder. If they were sidedraft like my old BMW, the leaking fuel just gets on your boot. There used to be a saying about how you could recognize a BMW rider from the spots on his boots.

I'll keep it, as anything else would look goofy with the hanger covers. I DO intend to install an electronic fuel shutoff when I do the desmog later this year. Fred.

OEM Petcock rebuilt with Honda Cover Set + Screen Set 5 December 2009. The bike only had 19,933 miles on it, but the soft parts were 10+ years old. No problems before or since. For the record, Paul is a pingel guy. Looks like most us aren't.

It seems VP's OP didn't want any comment, just the survey completion. Thats probably why there isn't much comment about about replacement.

Still original petcock, one cover set installed, failed again, gutted the petcock, installed a block off plate and now use it as a strictly manual cutoff. Just pay attention to the click to properly detent it when turning off at the end of the day.

I replaced mine with a "Pingel". Sure, I need to reach in a little further to turn the fuel to off or reserve, but I have l learned to do it all "while on the move".
I don't miss that HUGE cheezy plastic fuel knob hanging out the side of my bike, one bit!!

2001 Interstate - 140,000 miles - still running original petcock and never turn it off
I recently replaced my petcock on my 2001 at 12,000 miles. It still looked good. I also am one who never turns mine off and I think I will continue to leave it open. Seems to me as flimsy as these petcocks are, the less I mess with it the better.

Still use original. Smoothed some RTV on its leaky diaphragm about 10 years ago, been working great since! If it ever goes bad again, I'll smooth some on both sides and probably last forever .

Still using the original. I only turn it off when stored in the winter. I switch to reserve when I run out of gas on the run. That happens quite often.

Took the guts out the OEM, plugged the holes with Jb weld and made it manual with no vacuum.

I voted but don't remember commenting or see a post. I have installed one cover set for POM, when I got my 2K Tourer, the I/S same thing, never experienced a failure of any kind. I like the OEM petcock and believe that if you leave it alone, it works just like its suppose to. I never turn it off, accept to remove the tank for an air filter change.

Tried to vote, nothing happened. May be an iPad compatibility issue?
Still the original petcock on a 2000 std, switch to reserve almost every tank.

I answered "yes" to he first poll question, but in reality my Bobber never even had a petcock on the tank when I acquired it.
So I guess it "failed" to be there in the first place!

replaced the oem with pinged... don't like the pinged because not i have to replace the hanger chrome. It takes a long time to run correctly when i switch to reserve. Added the dan-mark fuel shutoff. the oem failed and i had a vacuum leak for a year.
